I think when they leave QVC they expect to go on to bigger and better things. I guess most of the times it doesn't work out. Jane R. Treacy thought she was going to set the world on fire with her silver jewerly. QVC didn't want it now I understand she is going to try to peddle it on HSN or a new shopping channel.

I think one of the reasons Kathy's talk show never got off the ground is because everyone thinks they're a talk show host and the air is absolutely full of talk shows that don't deserve air time! Look, I think Jane Pauley is lovely, and I watched her when she did the news and her "Dateline" stuff, and I watched Tony Danza in "Taxi" and "Who's the Boss"--but I've seen their respective talk shows, and they're terrible shows. I think the two best talk show hosts out there are Oprah and Ellen DeGeneris--and Kathy Levine, always one of my favorite QVC personalities, couldn't begin to compete. Networks are looking for ratings, and while Kathy was terrific on the Q, I doubt she'd pull in tons of viewers after the initial curiosity wore off. And, I'd hate to think that we'd be subjected to Joan Rivers, her buddy, on a regular basis...

Remember? Joan had a talk show once, too. It died a slow, quiet death...

Absolutely...and look at Geraldo Rivera (no longer doing a talk show)and Sally Jesse Raphael and Phil Donahue. Those talk shows that have survived rely on gimmicks such as obscene behavior (Jerry Springer) or paternity tests (Montel Williams). It's hard to host a successful talk show, so maybe Kathy Levine is better off.

Talk about paternity tests....Maury! And the guys that look like women - Maury is obsessed!

And what ever happened to Ricki Lake? She was awful! Does anyone know how these people get air time and pick up a bigger weekly pay check than you or I will ever see?

Puddy, I remember and LOVED the Joan Rivers talk show! She cracks me up! I still remember her winning the Emmy for best talk show host. I think it was right after her husband killed himself ...

Wayne Brady was pulled right after he won for best host as well ... I don't get it?

I know! I think Ellen has really found her groove with her talk show. When they were kicking around the idea for Kathy's and it died, she said on her BB that the market was saturated with talk shows at the moment. I just wish her clothing line was better than it was. :(

I agree--her clothing was really horrible--and I always thought she dressed so well herself. And, the market is not only saturated with talk shows...it's bursting at the seams with them...as well as all those damn law shows--Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Texas Justice, Judge Hatchett, The People's Court, Divorce Courtand the list goes on. What kind of mentality does it take to air all your personal data in front of millions of television viewers?

I suspect it's the lure of the spotlight. And a free trip.
