TO KILLER KITTY:

How do you know affirmative action helped Elders? Do you know him personally? Do you know his history?

Every African-American with an education and good job was not helped by affirmative action. Some of them (read MOST) did it on their own!

ChockCake:

You're wrong: ALL of them did it on their own - BUT, without the strides that were taken in large part due to Affirmative Action and other programs designed to "help" minorities, It wouldn't have made a difference. I don't think Killer Kitty is saying that blacks made it only because of AA, but without it, they may never have been heard.

TO SOMEDUDE:

That's exactly my point. Affirmative Action and like programs were implemented BECAUSE black people were being heard! It was not the other way around - AA was not implemented out of the goodness of anyone's heart. Struggles like those led by MLK, Jr. & Rosa Parks are what made the "majority" realize they'd better pay these people some attention. Affirmative Action was created out of a need to repay, if you will, an entire race of people for the hardship they endured through no fault of their own.

Believe or not there were wealthy, educated African American BEFORE so call Affirmative Action.
