National Ratings in Syndication: Week of June 3, 2002

What follows is your weekly dose of national ratings for first-run and off-network programs in syndication. Percent change versus 2000**1 (when available) appears in parentheses.

-Talk Shows:
Oprah: 5.5/5.6 (**0 percent), Live! With Regis & Kelly: 3.3 (**1), Maury: 3.1/3.3 (- 6), Jerry Springer: 2.6/2.8 (**8), Montel: 2.4/2.5 (**7), Rosie: 1.9 (**4), John Edward: 1.7/2.4, Jenny: 1.7/1.8 (**3), Ricki: 1.6/1.7 (**3), Sally: 1.5 (**1), The Other Half: 1.1, Ananda Lewis: 1.0

Cutting back production from 37 weeks of originals to 29 weeks in 2002**3 (and ultimately just 15 weeks by 2005**6) is unlikely to stop Oprah's ratings erosion.

Hey Lisac, Vlanj and Gailsie -
Up your nose with a rubber hose!!!!!!!!

ROLF!!!!!

I know, you're all thinking 'shouldn't that have been up their noses with rubber hoses'? Well, I thought a lot about that, but decided that I view them as one large, beastie thing, with one nose...
..So I chose my words accordingly.

Jinh, rubber hoses up their noses and sticks up their butts, what a picture! Too funny, LOL

<Jinh>

Cassandra - LOL!
Well, was originally going to post "up your butts with rubber putts" (cause I know they have more than one of those)...
I knew someone would come in with a rear-end reference (thought it would be LOLA though)...
LOL!!!!!!

Interesting...

These figures posted at MediaWeek - from Nielsen - are for the week after what was posted earlier, and apparently include the previous week's rating after the slash.

Though down 11% from last year, Live! is the only talker NOT to lose viewership from the previous week...

Maury's "burp" was short lived... LOL

The **d out numbers are - 10, - 11, - 28, - 27, - 34, - 23, - 33, - 21 respectively.

;0))

Hate to nit-pick dahlin', but you missed the one for Maury. Was it off 16 or 26%?

<Jinh>
06-20-2002, 01:17 PM
Never mind - it was - 6 right? Why did that one come out and not the others?
I hate this *** thing.

<Jinh>
06-20-2002, 01:24 PM
Never mind - because it was single digit.
If I could just wait 1 minute before I posted...
..Geez.

Post Haste Syndrome - That's what it is!

Maybe you people should stay with Zap2it, the official Neilsen ratings.
Media week was a mite off with it's 4.2 during sweeps for Regis and Kelly.
3.3 is a heck of a long way from 4.2. I do not know about Oprah's erosion.
I wonder who works for media week?

I love comparing the first week of the year with May sweeps.

I am not certain as to why Lisac, Vlanj and Gailsie deserve a rubber hose, 3.3 is 3.3 and that is Live's rating for the whole month of May sweeps.

Oh well you girls have fun.

<Jinh>

Shell -
They deserve "the hose" because they were so 'gleeful' in hearing that Live! fell out of second place to Maury, when they actually haven't.

I don't know about the 4.2 ratings issue...

Who really cares about the ratings? The show is still on so whats the biggie?

Funny how a few who faithfully watch the show day in and day out were so happy to see it slip in the ratings?

Sad, sad lives.

Must be the sticks, ROLF!!!!!!!

Hi low roaders....can't stay, Jim Bobs here and I got the purple wig on, ooh-la-la!!

Shell...

First... Where does it say that Zap2it is the "Official Nielsen ratings"? Neilsen has it's own official site.

Second... MediaWeek states at the bottom of their ratings are provided by "Nielsen"...

Third... The 4.2 for the month was a "preliminary" based on the "Nielsen" "overnights", and stated plainly that the final data were not all in. Believe they compared apples to apples, though. Or perhaps it was in the "select" demo.

Fourth... Where are ratings for posted for the entire sweeps period? They have not been posted here. Did you take each week, add them together and divide? If you did, you made an error. There is no way the sweeps period was a 3.3. The week of May 26 - June 2, was the first 3.3 since the last reruns. The following week posted above was the second. Sweeps ended May 22.

Fifth... Who compared the first week of the year with May sweeps?? (see above)

Other than that, great post...

Hi Shell. Once again, you have proven yourself to be a fair & classy poster.
(maybe it's the salt air---lol)

Hope you had a great day---we had another beautiful day here on the Jersey Shore. Hope you're enjoying your beach as much as we are.

PK laughing about Vlanj once more and her determined single mindedness... Hey - could that be considered a compliment???

I think the LIVE ratings for the week of June 3 would have been higher than that but they pre-empted Friday, June 7, with a tennis tournament in a lot of areas. They are going to have the women's tournament the week of July 1st and that might affect the LIVE ratings. Tennis=boring! I'd rather watch LIVE!

<PK>
06-20-2002, 07:24 PM
LOL, Nicole...

Yes, hard to watch them if they're not on...

Wasn't that tournament on more than one day??

Hi PK, it might have been on more days on different channels or different different times, but on Friday 7, LIVE was pre-empted where I live. I get LIVE on NBC at 10:00 a.m. Luckily, I have Digital Cable and was able to catch it on another channel.

Something else that was not factored into the ratings we got, but I'll bet the shows/sponsers got that information...

They pre-empted it here Thurs. and Fri.
Thanks to PK I called and got KWGN.

There so much more that goes into the ratings than ever shows in the skimpy stuff that filters down to us... Ah, but whether they are high or low, it is good ammunition for one side or the other

;0))

PK thinking isn't it nice Dapineda started this thread... We have had such a lively discussion here... LOL/ROFL/ROLF...

Shoot, gess I should splane. That's the mat o fur on ole Blew's behind. He's been sheddin somthin "offal".

It's filled up - Truck, not Ole Blew, and not leakin too bad (well, can't say same bout old blew), so it shud get y'all there and back with lots of partyin inbetwixt.. If Ole Blew shows up at the stop, fill him up with squezins and send him in the generl direction of the doublewide. He'll make it or knot. He may stop partway home and rolf a bit before makin in all the way. He's a good ole dog...

OH... The extra Herbicide is under the pasenjer seet, just behind the hole in the flor... Somthin tells me yorr gonna knead it.. Just in case you run out, the basebal bat is stuffed in the tank next to the sifon hose, as a gas cap... Be sure to lick if off good for you mess it up with blood or somethin worse. Id be a shame to waist good squezins...

All Y'all have a good time 2 nite. I'll be awaitn for newz in the mornin.
