I just picked up a compilation-tribute CD call “Nearvana - San Francisco” on Tinnitus Records, I’m sure you can guess whom the tributes to. Actually all 21 bands on the CD are from San Francisco. The cover is kinda lame but I picked it up cause there were four bands I really dig that have songs on it…Birdsaw and Storm a band female fronted vocals did a cover of ‘Something in the Way”. Just saw them at a show in Los Angeles, talk about an amazing performance and set of lungs (half the show she sang away from the mic). I guess some people compare her to Janis Joplin, which I can see but with a more heavy edged band backing her. Also doing a song - Storm Inc. - This is another great female fronted band who does a great version of Rape Me. Other bands include The Crosstops (psycobilly) cover ‘In Bloom’ this cover rules and Wilson Gil & The Willful Sinners do a very cool cover of ‘Heart Shape Box’ (more of a Nick Cave vibe). There are 18 more artist on here as well, what I like about this CD is there’s a good eclectic mix of styles. Definitely worth checking out.
