Do you think that Kathie Lee and Gelman really don't get along...or is it just an act for TV?

If anything it is all downplayed? They have had problems since the early 90s. She resented the type of guests he used to put on the show and even threatend to leave at one point if he did not bring on her type of guests. Then she really offended him once in an interview by saying he as a young, single Jewish guy did not know what type of people viewers liked to see. Their relationship has always been strained.

Maybe I'm not just imagining things? I have also noticed the friction between those two. I'm starting to get the feeling that the show gave her the choice to bow out gracefully, or they will have to let her go. Maybe she demanded more money and gave them an ultimatun? we will probably never know for sure. This is just a theory of mine. Think about it, this woman had her son in a tv movie, she is doing all kinds of interviews on tv and magazines, her CD,and the reason that she says that she is leaving the show makes no sense with what's going on right now with all of this publicity.It just makes on sense to me.

True Carli, I sense tension between KLG and Regis and Gelman. Gelman and her have always had a history of not getting along. But even with Regis something is off these days when they kid each other now there are more digs going on. Like when Regis reminded her of why she said she was leaving and is knocking herself out to be in the spotlight. Could she have been angry with the network for giving Reege Millionaire and nothing for her? And maybe her additude was okay I'll go get something bigger for myself then? Makes you wonder!!!

I really think your right about KLG being angry at the network for giving Reege a hit show and nothing for her..Do you remember last year she did a show, it involved videos of people. It was supposed to be funny and heartwarming, but it bombed big time! Then here comes Reege and has the biggest t.v. show ever and that's when KLG says shes had it and gives a big sob story on why she's leaving Live..The tension between Gelman & KLG is so obvious, you would have to be blind not to see it!!!

Carli, do you really think they'd get rid of Kathie and keep Gelman if given a choice? The show makes a ton of money for Disney and the title is Live With R & KL. No where do I see Gelman's name. Granted they might not be best friends but they've never had an argument; just disagreements on who to have on the show. And that happened a long time ago and they got over it. Believe me if it ever came down to the two of them Gelman would be saying BYE. One of Kathie's best friends is the president of Disney and I don't think she'd fire her. Kathie has said all along that she wants to be free to do other things. She could care less how much money Regis makes on Millionaire and is genuinely happy for him. If you saw her on Rosie that day gush about him----she meant every word she said or is the best actress ever anywhere!!

The story I heard about Kathie Lee and Gelman was that Kathie Mee was always mad about the fact that Gelman wouldn't let her sing on the show. Not to mention the fact that some of the people that Gelman chose to be on the show, Kathie Mee disapproved of. She threatened to leave one time when Gelman had these two on who were hosting a show called "Studs" about guys who basically slept with women for the thrill of it. Kathie Mee was not happy because she felt it was encouraging people to have sex when AIDS was running rampant.
I have noticed to a certain degree strain between Kathie Lee and Gelman. He's more Regis' man, Regis treats him like a son. I don't think that Gelman told Kathie Lee to leave, that was her decision probably, although her reason for leaving is totally off. Who knows.

Thanks for setting the record straight Dawn. It is obvious to everyone that Kathie Me can't stand Gelman who she calls Gellmonster. He never says anything bad about her and is a classy guy all the way. I dont know how he took it all these years. Regis is the core of the show. And Gelman comes up with all the great ideas to keep it the popular show it has become. You can see Me always disagreeing with Gelman and trying to wrestle control from him. She tries to get her friends on and is constantly putting up some friends CD's and books.
The fact is the show got better ratings when she was off the show.
All you have to do is watch how aggravated she always gets at Gelman and jabs at him constantly to see what a control freak she is. No class at all.

An acquaintance of mine is a very good friend of Michael Gelman and his fiance Lori. About the only nice thing to be said about Kathie Lee is that she is shrewd enough to make money hand-over-fist. More often the "B" - word is used. Apparently the fued between the two of them began when Gelman refused to have Frank and Kathie Lee's friend Art Buchwald on the show when he had a new book out. Gelman felt that "authors" do not get big ratings on the show and wanted to start to gear towards younger audiences to increase the ratings. Kathie Lee felt she knew what the audience wanted more than Gelman and the feud just escalated from there. In other words Kathie Lee "took umbrage".

I agree, Gelman like Regis has shown a lot of class through out the years as KLG vied for control of the show. I heard Gelman used to get frustrated that she only wanted to book personal friends to be on the show or lounge lizard style singers, who she probably wanted to sing duets with? He was trying to be savy and reach a broader audience including a younger crowd. It was never really her place to tell him who to have on the show and who not to. He had to tolerate a lot from her over the years. I think he will breath a sigh of relief once he does not have to deal with all that anymore.

I can't believe that you think Gelman can tell Kathie to leave. She can tell him to leave but he can't tell her to leave. IT IS HER SHOW WITH REGIS!!She owns part of the show. Gelman is just the producer. You may think he is a class act but he is cheap, boring and has been warming up the audience with the same spiel for years that I've been there enough times that I know it by heart. Regis was the one who nicknamed him Gelmonster and Kathie just went with it, too. Gelman has every person Regis wants on the show but very rarely has anyone Kathie wants. And I know for a fact that the only person who actually likes working with him is Regis.

Although I'm no big fan of Gelman (BigKLGfan will be happy about that!) I have to say that I can stomach him better than I can stomach Kathie Mee.
Kathie Mee tries to wrestle control away from Gelman, yes. As if he doesn't know what he's doing. And then when he doesn't listen to her, she uses the fact that she's leaving the show in a while or the fact that Gelman got the phone-a-friend question on Celebrity Millionaire wrong as ways of getting what she wants. I'm glad to see that this doesn't phase him.
Interesting Josie what you said about how when Kathie Mee is not on the show, the ratings go through the roof, whereas when Regis is not on the show, the ratings go way down. When Joy or some other female substitute co-host is on, the audience goes wild, ever notice that? The reason: these ladies are classy and stylish and fun. Whereas with Kathie Mee, well let's not go there. All Kathie Mee gets is polite clapping and on a good day, one-third of the audience will stand up. Just goes to show you.

Thanks Roxy for mentioning the Art Buchwald matter. She has brought up his name numerous times to Gelmen on the show and now I see why. I cant believe Fan doesnt see all the digs she does to Gelmonster on the show. Every show there is another dig. Does Fan have blinders on? And she is right Gelman is not an entertainer. He isnt supposed to be, Kathie Me is and she is failing miserably. Just look at all the people who post against her. CAn FAn explain why that is. No one posts against Regis or Gelman. It is because we all see how bad she is and are glad she is leaving.
Fan will always ignore this because she follows Me religiously and her kids were born the same time as Me's etc.
Gelman keeps that show interesting and thank God he tries to keep her in line by now letting the spoiled one get her way.
