View Full Version : Okay, maybe I'm the minority on this one

Just reading over the comments posted on this board, and I have to say that I must be in the minority on this subject. I watched the Daytime Emmys from beginning to end. While I do have to say that the gowns that KLG wore were pretty, that's about where my positive comments toward KLG end.

I thought that beginning the show with clips of recient things that KLG has been in, was just a ploy to show us that she has been getting some work since she left Live! I really don't understand how all that stuff tied in with Daytime Emmys. The shot of her pretending to punch Frank in the face, was just plain lame, not to mention distasteful. Would that clip have gone over if it was a male hitting his wife in the face? I don't think so!

Am I the only one who caught the fact that she had to bring up Cody & Cassidy?
As she was introducing a couple as presenters, she said how handsome he is and how drop dead gorgeous she is, she then went on to say it sounds like she's talking about Cody and Cassidy! Gag me!

Let's not forget the things that most people liked about KLG doing the Emmys is the things that she didn't have control over. Everything she had to say (except the stuff about her kids)was scripted, that's why she didn't sound like a moron.

Her hair was, I'm sure, done by the people there, not the same one who did her hair on Live!

Oh yes, I have to mention the fact that I seriousley doubt that Regis would've won if her name would've still been on the ticket. He only won after she withdrew herself from the nominations. Please don't tell me that there are people out there that think it was just a coincidence that he just now won after 17 years of doing a talkshow! It is painfully obvious. Even KLG herself joked that at least now Regis knows where the problem was, with his not winning after all those years! He really didn't say much (if anything) about KLG in his acceptance speech, gee wonder why! He should've thanked her for leaving.

Oh well, there is my 2 cents. All though we all watched the same show, I think some of us may have seen it differently then others. Kind of like when she was on Live!

To Emme:

You may not be in the minority. I totally agree with you. I thought the opening was cheesy, and I thought her comments about her kids were tacky, pretending to hit Frank in the face was tacky, and it was particularly tacky when she remarked that getting rid of her was the reason that Regis won. I thought she looked sensational, and when she sticks to the script and just introduces the presenters, she does fine. It's when she veers off into her me-me-me routine that she gets obnoxious. I also agree that the opening had nothing whatsoever to do with the Emmys, just another me-me-me thing. If she had done something more generic, NOT about herself, I would have enjoyed it more.

Emme...you are not alone. My adult daughter watched it and her first comment was that it took about 6 minutes into the show before she mentioned her kids. The dress I did see was beautiful. And my comment would have been that this was in fact scripted, therefore, not allowing her much time to improvise. (I suspect that she had the rules laid out in advance.) The Emmy's did not win in the ratings....which may not necessarily be due to her hosting, but more that people aren't as familiar with daytime shows as prime time. I understand her fans appreciation of her appearance at the Emmy's in comparison to her horrendous routine on Conan. I also feel that Regis won because he deserved it and did a great job without her and continues to. For her to have "pulled her name" from the nomination never struck me as a noble thing to do, it simply gives her one more thing to act noble about.. She's never done anything without calculating the results in her favor. Hasn't changed my opinion one iota, but she did look great.

Kazooti, Emme, Hippo.. you are so right.

You have said all the same things I thought as I was watching Miss Kathie Mee's performance and then some. Yes, she did look SOMEWHAT clothed
but her actions are still the same. "Regis, you finally knew what it takes to win an Emmy... getting rid of me!" Please! That was just too much. Her whole opening act was lame, stupid, distasteful, etc. etc. And of course, she had to mention her darling kids, Cody and Cassidy. Notice how the audience had no reaction to this? Way to go audience! And I would have loved to have seen her face when Regis won his awards, particularly for talk show host. I suppose in her next appearance she will say something along the lines of "well he tied with Rosie, so it's not the same thing", or words to that effect. The fact that she bragged and bragged how taking her name off of the nomination list was the classy thing to do.. believe me, there is nothing classy about Kathie Mee. I bet you she's eating those words right now. And do you want to know one other thing? On ET tonight, they had an interview with Kathie Lee at the Daytime Emmys and she said that Frank didn't come to the show, but walked the red carpet with her, just to show people that they haven't split up! Ha Ha! This woman is a laugh.

Some excellent points raised here! It is true, she really did not have too much time to ad-lib on this occasion, and the bit about Frank was tasteless at best, I feel if she is going to stay married to the man, it's high time she quit reminding the public about the affair even in the form of a joke. And since this was so close on the heels of her Conan appearance it's a safe bet she has turned over a new leaf in terms of her public image. But she did look great this time.

And I forgot to mention that my 11-year-old daughter watched a few minutes of the show with me. She happened to catch the opening monologue where KM got into a scuffle with a man over a videotape, and she ended up on his back with the tops of her stockings showing. My little girl, who is FAR more tolerant than I am, thought it was totally lame.

Okay !!!! I stand corrected, obviously I should not judge the show based on the total of 15 - 20 minutes that I watched. I missed all of the kid comments. And I didn't see anything about her hitting Frank. Please tell me that it was not in reference to his cheating on her. I thought that the producers of the show reined her in by scripting her every word with the exception of her words to Regis after he won. I just channel surfed back and forth and saw the dresses and the hair and was surprised by her overall appearance. Obviously,I missed the content! My apologies to all. Kazooti in particular, because she always does the best play by play and color commentary if you miss one of KL appearances, I think that you should work for the NYPost !

To Samantha:

With regard to KL "hitting" Frank, all she said was that people had told her she should spend more time at home with Frank. So then they cut to a clip of her punching out another actor on the set of a movie, which was from "Spinning Out of Control." They mae sure they didn't show the actor's face, so of course the implication was that KL jumps out of bed and decks Frank. No reference was made to the cheating.

Hey girls just wanted to add my 2 cents to say that I certainly agree with all that
you've said. I watched the first 15 mins. of the show and then started surfing for
something better. What I did see of her was an improvement of her usual ME ME ME
attitude. Guess you are right about everything being scripted Emme! I did notice that
she had to get in Cody & Cassidy (like who cares) and their description of how wonderful
they are...yuck! I did laugh at the scene (from Spinning out of control) where she's
having a temper tantrum and she said this was how she felt when Kelly took over her
job. It was probably more to the truth then she will ever admit!!

It really is sad to think you have to live your life defending every move you make,i'm
referring to Frank walking her down the red carpet, again like who cares! Well, for the
part of show I did watch she did an okay job, but like i've said before and i'll say
it again..SHE'S A LEGEND IN HER OWN MIND! Thanks for your great posts everyone, I really
enjoyed reading them...TC

There is just no pleasing you people. For starters, the writers had to come up with the opening bit which was quite funny. It was a whole tie-in to the soaps including staying home with Frank. They do that on soaps sometimes, hit their spouses, don't they? Don't you remember that she said jokingly "if it's not funny blame the writers". The writers woould have done something like that for anyone who hosted it. If Regis hosted they probably would have done something on his career. I remember them doing something about Susan Lucci and Erica Kane when she hosted. So it wasn't just Kathie. Second, she does still employ the same hair and makeup people that she had at Live! Even though they still work at Live! they also still want to work for her which says something about what kind of person she is. She also must have known that if she took her name out of contention he had a great shot of winning and she did it anyway. She was very honest in saying she wanted him to win and was glad when he did. If you don't believe that then you would have to admit she was a good actress and we know you don't want to admit that!!When you see her on the Sally show next week(And I know you will) you'll see how genuinely happy she was for him. And last, Regis had a lot of shows and cohosts before Kathie and none of them took off until Kathie came on board. It was a local show until Kathie and then with Kathie it took 3 years for them to prove themselves. When they knocked Phil Donahue out of first place in NY that's when they knew they had something different and special. So Kathie had a lot to do with the show's success.

BigKLGfan, it's obvious you love this person, you enjoy her many talents and appreciate her inner beauty. Hey, it's okay. She should revere your loyalty.

It's fruitless, however, to try and sway our opinion of her. I personally don't think that there's a sincere bone in her body. She epitomizes the word "phony" in my book. It's my prediction that her husband's eventual demise will only give her one more reason to appear on Good Morning America and a host of other shows so she can explain more of her screwed up life to all of America. That may not be a nice thing to say, but historically...everything that happens to her presents only one more opportunity to have an audience. If she needs this much adulation from strangers, she must be lacking same in her personal life. (and that's sad)

FYI, on Access Hollywood last night they announced that the Daytime Emmys got the lowest ratings in all the years it's been televised.

05-23-2001, 05:34 AM
One reason the Emmys did so poorly in the ratings is because that
soap fans - like myself - were totally disgusted with the
nominations this year. It was obvious that the process was
unfair, shows were set up to win (or lose) - case in point
"One Life to Live" which didn't get a single nomination.
Fantastic actors and actresses were ignored.
The whole thing has become political.

So they didn't even have their soap audience watching. From what
I see here, the main viewers were the talk show fans.

Last night at 10:30, I was channel surfing and came upon the KLG story on the E! channel. It was about half way over. She is unbelieveable, wait until you hear this: there is yet a new reason for leaving Live! Yep, another one comes to the surface. She said when she was filling in for David Letterman (remember that little song and dance?), she said when she left the stage, she went up to Frank and said that this is it, she wants to leave Live! She just loved the response from the audience. (Did she forget that she had a bra thrown up at her while on stage)? Last reason I heard, it was because JFK Jr's plane went down. Maybe next month, she'll have another one, she is starting to loose track of what she says. Call me crazy, but I thought she did that Letterman show after she left Live! I could be wrong.

Oh her new saying is now "I DON'T GIVE A RIP")! Ooooooooh, what a bad girl she is, why she is practically cursing! Ha ha!

Another thing that really got me, was when she mentionen on Live! that she had a miscarrage while on vacation, I think it may have been sometime after Cody was born. She said she needed to tell the public before the tabloids got hold of it! Here's a hint Kathie Lee, try just keeping things like that between you and your husband. They said she was met with sympathay by the public over the miscarriage, gee I wonder if that was what she was looking for.

What will she do next to make the public dislike her even more? Is there anything left?

05-23-2001, 07:26 AM
She has used that Letterman excuse before. Although she has changed the dialogue around somewhat. I remember when she was on Larry King one night she told this story of when she hosted Letterman that night, she said to herself : "Take a mental image, this is the night your life changed forever..." or some such ludicrous garbage. She has had a hundred and one excuses for leaving: to protect her kids, to shield her family from the media, JFK Jr. dying, the show was getting old, Regis was too tired, her contract was up, she was tired of interviewing the same guests, she wanted to spread her creative wings... on and on and on, and I am sure there will be a hundred more in the not so distant future. And you want to know something? Less and less people are buying into it.

As for the Daytime Emmys ratings being so low? Hmm... wonder why.

Lily
05-23-2001, 02:23 PM
It just puzzles me where you get your info from bigklgfan, Regis was very successful
before KL ever came into the picture. Although he gained national exposure on the Joey
Bishop show he claims it was the worst period of his career. He did have a successful 7 yr
run on the A.M. Los Angeles morning show. He then went on to host the Regis Philbin show
where he won an Emmy for that. The Live show was not doing well until he paired with
KL but he certainly does not owe his success to her. Without Regis "Live" would not
be around today!!! Oh & BTW, I know the hairdresser who USED to do her hair on Live
and she does NOT do her hair anymore!!! You can fool some of the people some of the time,
but not ALL the people all of the time. :-D

bigklgfan
05-23-2001, 03:33 PM
Lily, you know Diane her hairdresser? That's funny because the last time Kathie was on the View I saw her and spoke to her and she was there to do Kathie's hair. So maybe she has stopped since then. Yes, Regis had a successful career but AM Los Angeles is a local show so nobody in the midwest or east or anywhere else for that matter would see it. Also all those other shows are so old, I, for one, am too young to remember any of them. Regis himself has said that the show didn't take off until Kathie came on board. And yes, Kathie hosted Letterman on Feb.24, 2000 and announced on Feb.29 that she was leaving. And can't a person have more than one reason to leave a job? The audience reaction on Letterman that night was tremendous. Especially when that Radio DJ threw the bra onstage. TThe DJ thought she would scare Kathie but instead she used it and it became comic Gold. So she just picked it up and shoved it back in her face. I was there that night and the energy and response was great.

To bigklgfan:

...great post as usual ...you're exactly right on about Letterman...that was ingenious of her to use that bra incident the way she did..did you get on the chat with Kathie Lee and David tonight???...I got on and she answered 3 of my questions...I was so excited...I posted a ton of things...

I'm glad she answered some of your questions. It's also nice to know I have an ally or two on this site!!! If you've never met her I hope you do sometime. She's great to her fans and you won't be disappointed. The first time I was introduced to her I told her my name and she has never forgotten it. That still boggles my mind!

To Lily- I didn't think I saw Diane there, I actually spoke to her. She was there with her son who is on one of Kathie's new CDs. If you saw Jay Leno she showed the picture of him and said "he is my hairdresser's son" not former hairdresser. I never said she traveled with Kathie, just that she still does her hair.
