View Full Version : Millionaire bad news

Just saw the Nielsen ratings for last week, it looks like Millionaire was rated 39th and 40th. Shocking. They were top 10 for so long. Wonder how Regis feels about this. I wonder how long they will keep the show around with those ratings. I'm sure they'll at least cut it back a night or two. Definite case of overkill. Weakest Link beat them.

They have already cut back to two nights a week...they killed this show by putting it on too much.

Though I really dont like Anne Robinson from Weakest Link, I like the game itself better than Millionaire. Rounds are timed, and the game moves much faster. I hate it on Millionaire when people sit there and agonize over a question. And that is when it is edited down...I wonder how long some of these people sit there with one question. You either know it or you dont.

OUCH! Barely in the Top 40?! Let me say it again... OUCH!!

Well, it really is no wonder that the ratings for one of my favorite shows have slipped so much.
All I ever seem to hear these days is:
When is "Millionaire" on?
Are they ever going to go back to three days a week?
What's with all the "special editions" shows?
Why don't they have more shows with just regular people as contestants?

I wish I had an answer. I wish I knew.
To me, the magic of "Millionaire" has always been that "anyone from anywhere" could become a contestant and in theory, win one million dollars.
I wish they would go back to that.
So do a lot of people.

A television world without Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will be a television world that will soon be overrun with crap like Temptation Island, Jackass, and Love Cruise. Do we really want to trade Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire?

Let's hope that doesn't happen.
And that's my final answer....maybe

They had open auditions here in Buffalo for both the Weakest Link and Millionaire. My husband wanted me to go and try for Weakest Link..but you know, I would rather face Regis. That lady would make me cry.

I like some of the celebrity editions, because you can see glimpses of their real personas. I just think they are doing it way too often.

I really dont care much for the reality television. We do watch Survivor at our house, but that is the only one.

Trisha and Bigskywriter:
Funny you mention it, I just went to a Weakest Link audition recently in my city. I got past the first round and now I wait to see if I'll hear from them. They were actually auditioning for a daily syndicated Weakest Link with another host, not Anne. It will start in January.

Trisha, you should have gone to the audition. It's a lot of fun and a great experience, as I'm sure bigskywriter can testify. Bigsky, did you get on Millionaire by calling their 1-800 line, or at a contestant search in your city?

I loved the show in the beginning but I too lost interest when regular
contestants were kinda put on hold in favor of celebrities. These networks
have a way of kicking themselves in the foot or I should ratings.

To RegisandKellyWatcher:

I did it the good old fashioned way.
Eight months of phone calls!

The week I spent in New York was one of the best weeks Ihave ever had.
I had a blast!
i met a lot of great people, and I won some money. I have no complaints.

Bigskywriter, How did you do on Millionaire?I can't believe the ratings were down that much.....too bad. I wonder if it is because people are testing the new ( read crappy ) shows . Also, isn't weakest link doing a heap of celebrity shows? Ricki Lake was on the view and I thought I heard her say her dad is on Millionaire tonight.

I like to say I was painfully close to the BIG MONEY.
I was stumped by the $250,000 question and I walked away with $125,000.
Not too bad for about an hour and half of work though. My mom was proud of me and no one threw rotten vegetables at me when I got home.

Yes. Rikki Lake's dad is a contestant.

Elwood, I couldn't agree with you more about the new shows--at least the sitcoms. I try to give them a chance to grow on me, but sometimes I think maybe it's me who's lost my sense of humor. Assuming that the people on this board most likely enjoy watching TV, can anybody recommend any new comedy shows that I might like? The only one I currantly watch is Frazier.
The only reality show I've gotten hooked on is The Mole.(I understand that's not doing too well in the ratings either).Anyone else into that one?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news....especially since I really enjoy the show...but my sources tell me that ABC has pulled the Moles from it's schedule....it's on HIATUs...it might be back in January...possibly....

We're all going to have to wait...
Just think of those poor contestants....they can't tell anyone for months!!

sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Hey Mole Watcher, believe it or not I saw the first episode of "Ellen" and I thought it was really funny. I think it might be on Friday nights, I can't seem to catch it since the first night though. But I always liked the other Ellen show too until all the gay stuff started happening on it. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against gay people but they concentrated just a little too much on the gayness and not enough on the show. She is gay in this one too but it was really funny. At least the first show was anyway, but I'll try it again. I'm really getting into Wil and Grace too this year. Fraser and Friends I would have to say are my favorite but other than these I really can't say there is anything else I'm interested in watching. I really don't care for all those reality shows at all. If I do watch television I usually end up watching movies more than anything else.

I still like the "Millionaire" but rarely get a chance to watch it but I especially like the celebrity versions for some reason. They just seem to be more fun. I might be in the minority on this one. I would be very disappointed if they cancelled it and its just my opinion but I don't think you can compare it to the "Weakest Link" at all. Also I've never found that woman intimidating in the least, what is everyone talking about?

Have to get in here and say that I too have become bored with Millionaire. At the beginning I wouldn't miss one night of it. I think it was on too often and I found it went too slowly. Now I agree with sb....the celebrity shows are much better and I try not to miss those. It is much more fun and if they could have them more it might help. That is only my opinion and how I feel. Would hate to see it go completely but they did overdo the number of times it was on I think. I really enjoy Weakest Link and there again.....I try not to miss any. Whether this will continue I don't know. Right now it is #1 to me. I like Anne and think she does a super job. The celebrity shows are really neat and actually cause more fun that even Millionaire does. That's the way I see it!! Take care everyone ......boop

Guess I should make that FORMER Mole Watcher, huh? Don't worry, bigskywriter,I won't kill the messanger. Your message prompted me to go to ABC's site, and of course you're correct-it's on hiatus, at best.Replaced by America's Funniest Home Videos--Oh Joy!(Forgive my sarcasm..)At least I got to fire off an email to ABC. I know that won't change a thing, but emails always help get these little vexations off my chest.BTW,bigskywriter, since you seem quite observant--Did you have any inklings about the Mole's identity? My intuitions were telling me Katie, only because she seemed the least likely.
SweetSue, thanks for the head's-up on Ellen. I,too, stopped watching her show about the same time that you did. It felt like she was concentrating more on getting a message across, rather than on being funny. Ironically, her new show was on opposite The Mole on Fridays, so now I'll get a chance to check it out.

Who Was The Mole?
mmmmmmmmmm.......

Well, I was starting to zone in on the black attorney with the glasses.
For the following reasons:

He was involved with the loss of money (sabotage?) in three games
-the SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM
-breaking curfew and leaving his room
-and taking off his costume.....by the way...his costume kinda looked like a mole, didn't it? Big furry animal?

I have also seen several print ads. In all the print ads, his are the only hands you can. And he's pointing with one finger....is he saying he's the Mole? or was he pointing at the mole?

guess we're going to have to wait a long time to find out....

As for Weakest Link...they are having another "celebrity" show this week I believe, not sure if Monday or Sunday, but they are infamous newsmakers. Included are Kato Kaelin, Tonya Harding and Darva Conger. UGH. These are people that need to fade away.............

Yes, Ricki Lake's father is the carryover contestant that begins Millionaire tonight.

I can't believe they would have a show (Millionaire) with THOSE people! I definetely won't be watching!

Trisha

SS...it is the Weakest Link having those people. As much as I like the show, I probably will skip that one too......

To Bigskywriter,
$125,000. WOW and congrats. That is really exciting. Please let us know if the show is ever re-run.
As for sit coms I love Frasier, smart writing, and a cute show on Foxfamily called State of Grace. To show you how out of touch I am I prefer the I Love Lucy marathon on TVLand to just about any of the current offerings. ( In case you think that sounds strange considering my name, I am a woman and Elwood is one of our cats!)

Sitcoms are tough to judge. I love Frasier, but I can see it has gone downhill some. I also love Spin City and the 70's show. We are always looking for "family" sitcoms...my daughter started watching the WB lineup on Friday nights....Sabrina, Maybe Its Me, Reba, and Raising Dad.

I don't think they'll ever rerun my shows.
My copy of the show is starting to look like a screen door.

It was a great two days-at least I have my memories........
Of course, with the way my brain has been these last few weeks, who knows how long that will last?

MoleWatcher
10-18-2001, 06:23 PM
Well, bigskywriter,I would think that with $125,000 you could afford to buy a new brain. That's what I'm saving my pennies towards.Even a used one.(Of course, there's that joke about a man's brain costing more because it's been used so little...but I won't go there.)
Interesting observations on why the attorney could be the Mole. However, someone else chose his furry costume. Also, if the finger that you noticed in the ad was his middle finger, perhaps he knew the show was going to be canceled and he was telling the network what he thought of them..(just kidding)
