You said you had lots of cats.I just love cats..well I love all animals but cats are my favorite. What's their names and how old are they? How did you end up with so many?

I wonder how Regis's cat Ashley is doing.I wish he would talk about her a bit more to keep us up to date.

Well, I have 7 cats. Most of them inherited, when my daughters got them, and then left home, and left them with me. I have my NYC daughters college cat, Leo.

My other daughter, I have 3 of her cats. One when she was in HS, that is the oldest, her name is KitKat, then, there is Buffy, her college cat, and then Cider, a baby, of her mother cat that had kittens. Then, there is a black Persian cat, that came here, and adopted us.

I took 2 kittens from my husbands secretary, that her cat had kittens.... Those 2 are Regis and KatieLee!!!

Our little Cybil dog, went to doggie heaven about 5 years ago, and since I have all of these cats, we haven't even thought about a dog.

My little cockatiel of 20 years, died last week, so, now, all I have is cats....

I am just a very humane person, because, believe me, I would only want to have one or two cats, and that would be it!!! But, I would never turn them over to the Humane Society. There was an awful article in our paper today, that if you take an unwanted pet into them, they will keep them 24 hours, then, they put them to sleep.... So.... I won't be doing that anytime soon!!!

So... I have 7 cats!!! I feel like the old woman in the shoe, that had so many cats, she didn't know what to do!!!!!!

Well, we had a Great Dane years ago, but, we didn't have cats then!

Yes, my Hubby, isn't real thrilled with all of these cats, and he threatens ever so often to get rid of a few of them!!! Of course, he never would, but, he was trying to find a home for the last one that my daughter left with us, since he was still fairly young.

Wow MCD, that is horrible about the 24 hr time frame. I am guessing that they are extremely overcrowded? They were talking about the Humane Society in my area recently. Since college will be starting soon- college kids want pets but after they graduate or leave for the holidays they just leave their animals to wonder around to fend for themselves or they drop them off at the Humane Shelter. You would not believe how many cats I have roaming my neighborhood....

Monica, I know, I remember when my daughter was in Tallahassee, her apt. complex, had all sorts of stray cats, that would eat out of the dumpsters. The kids would just leave them there when they left. I am sure all college towns have this problem.

Yes, I think the 24 hour situation is from overcrowding.. They said, that even the stray that come in, if the owner doesn't come and claim them, they only have a 5 day limit for them. So, it is really sad.

They were pleading for people to come and adopt a pet. Very sad.

OMG that is terrible MCD and Monica. So sad.

I don't want to sound like Bob Barker here but PLEASE PLEASE people "have your cats or dogs spayed or neutered"!!

There are too many animals out there without homes that are destined for doom.

Lmroland, is that YOUR cat on your avatar? What a beauty! How did you get your cat?

My husband rescued our cat from getting run over on the interstate over in Iowa. I'm pretty sure someone just dumped her there, because she was only a few months old, and there were not farms or residential area anywhere close. He saw here trying to cross the interstate several times and turning back. He pulled over on the side and picked her up. He was going to keep her at the machine shop where he works, but she was terrified of all the noise and would hide where he couldn't find her. So he brought her home. We got her spayed as soon as she was old enough.

At first she of course would let my husband pick her up and she seemed to like our youngest son Tom (12 at the time) at first. But she wouldn't have anything to do with our 2 older sons. She seemed scared of young men or teenagers. Then as soon as Tom's voice changed, she wouldn't have anything to do with him either! She's in the wrong family if she doesn't like men. lol

She has gotten so that she will tolerate my sons, but if she gets a chance to escape, she'll take off.

Hi Jan--

Yes,Sammy is my cat. He's a pure bred persian.Hubby bought him from a breeder for me for Valentine's Day in 1996.His real name is Samson as his Dad's name was Sam.

He waits by the door for me to get home from work at night and then proceeds to tell me how happy he is to see me by running from one end of the house to the other for 10 minutes straight.-lol

He's a very fickle cat and will only eat one kind of cat food, does not like cat treats and will meow very loudly if his water needs to be refreshed.

Hubby will NOT allow him in our bed but he does sneak in if hubby is up before me.He has never been outdoos as he has no claws and could not defend himself if needed.

The only problem I had with him was(and I'm not sure I should go into this but..what the heck!)when he was neutered he had an extra testicle that they did not remove. Therefore he was "humping" anything humpable in my house.Mostly he prefered stuffed animals and his cat bed.I was at my wits end til a water spray bottle fixed the problem.--LOL...worked like a charm and saved another trip to the vet.

I could go on and on but I think I said enough.--lol

OH..THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR CARING...

DID YOU KNOW THAT AN ANIMAL THAT HASN'T BEEN "FIXED"
CREATES 2000-3000 UNWANTED ANIMALS??

Again, THANK YOU, MCD!!!!!

Ms... Piggie...

I know that all of my cats have been fixed... They will not be bringing unwanted kitties into the world. They are just too hard to find a home for... believe me... I know....

I agree with the slogan... have your pets spayed or neutered. That seems to work!!!

Also wanted to say, our Humane Society does do free spaying or neutering, but, I guess there are lots of people that don't really care to take them time to have it done.;

Free spaying and neutering? Then no one in your state has not even a slight excuse for not spaying and neutering their pets.

What a blessing you are MCD!!! I wish all states were that concerned.

Even in my area, they just "hope" that the person who adopts a pet from the Humane Society gets it altered. Can you believe that!?!?!?

IT IS NOT EVEN A REQUIREMENT!!!!!

I can't tell you the number I have paid for personally, just to make sure it gets done.

Again, I know these problems aren't the first and foremost troubles on people's minds...but only if we can change the thought processes of one person....

Once again MCD...thank you for the contributions you are making!!!!

:)

You mean, my contribution, by keeping 7 cats?????

Well, if you look at it that way,, I guess it really is a BIG contribution, because, right at the moment, I am sneezing, and very allergic!!! So.... I think it is a great contribution. To save.... a few cats!!!!

JK.... I love them all, as long as I take my Benadryl, I am fine!!! Of course, I am a zombie, most of the time, but, the cats, and the rest of the family, are getting used to me being that way!!

Gotta go.... the Benadryl, is starting to set in, and it is time to go to bed!!!
