Regis and Hope and Faith

seems like every paper and mag. I pick up this week has a blurb about Regis guest starring on Hope and Faith--saw it again today in TV Guide--the kicker is that they're saving his appearance for sweeps. Not sure this is a smart move for Kelly--it's like implying they need Regis to get the big ratings. Guess we'll see lol.

I think it will be charming to have Regis on as a guest during sweeps. As Tina says, people come to expect that Regis be on a show with Kelly as a guest. They go together like coffee and Danish, or peanut butter and jelly. Either is good without the other, but together they are even better.

It's nice that Kelly wants Regis as a guest, and also that Regis wants in on the action so to speak. It'd be really cool if both Regis and Joy were to guest star as themselves somehow. That'd be great for sweeps week.

I also think it will be good for Regis to be on the show as a guest. It definitely cannot hurt plus I actually think it will help the ratings. I could be wrong but don't alot of young people go out on Friday nights? I am not sure if Friday night is a good night for this to be on, but I will check it out ( I am a homebody LOL)

For someone "supposedly" so plugged into the 'business', you would advocate that "Hope and Faith" do nothing special for Sweeps when every other show on the dial will be using guest stars and gimmics to punch up their ratings for that period?

I think it's a nice homage to Regis that they feel he is of that quality (Regardless of what DoUThink?, thinks).

Unless, of course, the 'suits' think Regis would get his nose out of joint if they didn't use him and would badmouth the show and ABC on the air as he did before, when he felt slighted...

Hi V- Saba is doing good but she is not happy with the weather! We have had an unbelievable amount of rain this summer- last night we had over an inch of rain! Last Sunday the sun was out, and she was overjoyed- we spent the day at one of the parks.

We are expecting an 80 percent chance of rain tonight- what is new LOL I am ready to go up north to see the sun LOL

yes, it certainly is a compliment to Regis that they want him for sweeps. Actually, Monica, a lot of the "younger set" (I'm thinking 9-13 year olds--too young to go out on a regular basis yet so they're watching tv on Fridays-- if they're not at a school function or sleepover) watches the shows on the WB--Reba, What I Like about You (with Amanda Bynes)--and they all love these shows--not sure if many will switch to TGIF on ABC but of course you never know-- the only preview I've seen of the show so far is one of Kelly leaning over something with a heaving chest and of course the food fight.

I think that Regis on Hope & Faith would be great!

I think that Regis does need to loosen up a bit and show that he does support Kelly instead of showing his jealously all of the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if this guest appearence (if Regis does do it) is a plot by his publisist to show that Regis does support Kelly and isn't jealous. Although, I am not sure it would work Regis has already showed way too much jealousy of Kelly and career, IMO.

I don't think that Regis being on the show implys anything except that the producers want to be able to keep up with their competition. As PK said all of the show use guest appearences for sweeps, so why shouldn't Hope & Faith!

I agree with you about Regis and his jealousy of Kelly's success, Tink, and he should guest on her show just so he can get a little of the glory for himself. Kelly builds him up daily, saying she can't do it without him, what else does he expect?

Most of the time I see both of them as equals, though Regis has more years of experience, and Kelly has more popularity right now. They can both enjoy what each brings to the show by supporting each other.

Kelly certainly does her share of giving to Regis. And I feel that in his own way Regis shows his support for Kelly with his teasing. I believe for the most part, that's his way of building her up by calling attention to her interviews in the mags, pics in the papers, and yes MC'ing a Comedy show, and doing an act. I really don't think Regis is jealous of Kelly, but sometimes it looks that way.

Hi tink, do you really think Reege is jealous of Kelly? I'm not seeing it, lol. He could very well be, but imo, I don't think so. I do think he acts like he's disinterested, etc., just like he acts like the grumpy old guy. Let me add quickly though, there are times when you absolutely KNOW he is in a bad mood and he has no qualms about showing it. I hate those shows, lol.

V, you make very valid points. Don't think anyone can refute that kelly is constantly picking her sleeves up, then down, then up, scratching, tugging, twisting, foot flicking, and so on and on ad nauseum. She's either very uncomfortable as you say or just a real camera hog that has to have everyones' eyes glued to her. I would love to just listen to their stories but her constant movement, especially during Reege's storytelling is very distracting. When they did a tight shot of Reege today during one of his stories, you could see his eyes move to follow her fidgeting. I thought he was gonna let her have it, as he is known to do, but he let her go. Probably felt sorry for her because of her condition, lol.

I totally agree with your post!

Kelly is always giving Regis props, but yet Regis hardly ever gives Kelly props.

Kelly credits Regis all of the time. But, yet Regis never credits Kelly for the higher ratings....even higher then when Regis was just hosting on his own. That to me is jealousy.


As you said Kelly is much more popular right now. She IMO appeals to more of a diverse fan base. Older women and men, younger women and men and teens. Regis only really appeals to older women or men.

I agree that they both can enjoy what each other brings to show by supporting one another. However, I do think that Kelly supports Regis, but I am not convinced that Regis supports Kelly. I think that Regis says supporting comments because he is forced to say them or feels as though he has to say them, but they are not convincing comments IMO. I belive that Regis' teasing comments toward Kelly is jealousy, not support. But, that is JMO.

In any event both Regis and Kelly should be greatful for where they are today, no matter how they got there! I would kill to have as much money as they both do! LOL

No offense taken, Tink. And you are probably right in that Regis probably prefers being the center of attention - I really do like him even when he is gruff and grumpy. He just seems like such a nice man and Kelly is a sweet down-to-earth gal. I think they really do compliment each other well - maybe because they are opposites...

I think Bonnie Hunt is changing to Fri night too. There's a couple of other new sit coms that are going to be on Fri nights, but I can't remember what they are now.

And I always liked TGIF before, when Step By Step, Perfect Strangers, Family Matters and I don't remember what else was on Fri nights. Wasn't Full House also on Fri years ago?

And Regis certainly DOES appear to be jealous of all the attention Kelly's getting these days, but I really think most of it's an act, and that's the way he supports Kelly by teasing her about it. But there's probably at least a smidgeon of real jealousy because Kelly's been in the limelight a lot lately.

I have to agree... There was alot of tension on the set, with Regis and KLG... when Regis finally got the Millionaire show... He really rubbed it in, that HE was finally doing something, and she, wasn't. That is when KLG, made her decision to leave, once Regis was doing the Millionaire show...

Then, when that fell through, and Kelly comes on, she got the gig on the Ed show, which, you could tell Regis was upset, because, by that time, his Millionaire show, had gone bye-bye.

Then, when Kelly gets her own sit-com, and he just has his "morning" job, I think, he appeared to be very jealous. I am sure some will say, that is just his "act", but... he did come across, being abit mean, and sarcastic, in the things he said to Kelly, and they way he acted... JMO.... That is just the way it appeared to me.....

Then again, I could really care less!! I am neither a Regis fan, or a Kelly fan... so, I can say whatever I feel like....

I just enjoy the show, and could care less, what they do after the show.... or for that matter, what they do during the show...

There are several new shows on TGIF this year. I belive The George Lopaz show kicks off TGIF. Then it is a show called Back to Kansas. Then Hope & Faith and then the Bonnie Hunt Show. Leadhead, you are right Full House was on Friday night along with the other shows that you mentioned. But, then there was also Just The 10 of Us (A spin off of Growing Pains) which didn't last long and I believe that Saved By The Bell was also on Friday nights at one point too. But, again that didn't last long! LOL

Getting a bit off topic here, Full House was really a favorite of mine. As popular as Mary Kate and Ashley got after that show, I have to say the middle daughter was the one I liked best, and then the oldest girl. I also liked Lori Laughlin and "Jesse" (Dang I can't remember names this morning!)

I liked Mary Kate and Ashley better on the show when they were middle school age (Two of a Kind?). I liked the guy who played their father better than (Fred Sacco?). He was also host of America's Funniest Videos.

Didn't Hayley Mills play a teacher on Saved By the Bell? I remember when I was little I practically idolized Hayley Mills. I had to see every one of her movies, and there were plenty of them back then. And wasn't Ricky Schroeder on SBTB also?
