Watching a Will and Grace in the background.. One of the "sorta" later ones with "Woodie".. The laugh track is quite loud... They are engaged????? And now they are not...
It is a typical sitcom... And pretty silly on the surface, but an emmy winner... so... OK, Question...
Do any of you watch a sitcom (period, lol) for itself, or do you watch because you like the people ON the sitcom... If so, did you begin watching because you liked the people, or did you watch a bit and THEN liked the people.. And if either/both, do you still watch the sillyl thing??
Enquiring minds, and all that...

I started watching a show called "Grounded for life" Can't think now who was in it, but no one I had ever heard of, I found the show funny and grew to love the people, Also stumbled upon King of Queens, did not watch for a while cause thought the title was stupid, but as it turns out, I like that show

I watch a few sitcoms (probably too many LOL) and with the ones I watch, I started watching because of hearing something about it, the show being recommended by people I know. I love the Gilmore Girls, but if a friend of mine didn't tell me about it, not sure if I ever would have watched it. Never heard of the actors on the show, also love Friends ( the combination of acting and writing to me makes it a great show). I also love NYPDblue and Boston Public, never knew the actors before I started watching those shows, I still like the shows very much but this season so far is not as good as I would have expected. I do not care who is on the show, I look for does it entertain me, do the cast of actors have chemistry on screen, does the story flow. I know when I watch Friends that I will have a smile on my face. But I prefer the drama shows such as NYPDblue, Law and Order etc...

King of Queens was a slow start...
He (don't remember name, of course) was on Live the other day and Ellen yesterday - I think...
I don't watch it but it's been on a long while, and seems solid enough in the ratings...
Not familiar with the other show... But it's nice that you tripped over it and became attached... Without benefit of any critic's appraisal..

So, Monica...
You do not watch programs based on what the critics think...
Nor do I...
Why do we have TV critics??? LOL... To ignore??

I just started watching Wil & Grace this year. I was flipping chanels last season when I happened to catch the season finale. Thought Jack & Karen were hysterical!! Rented the first season on DVD to get the background and am now hooked on the show. Actually I am probably more hooked on Jack & Karen than the show itself. I have been watching Friends since day one but must admit it's probably more out of habit now than anyting else. I find it's too much about sex lately.

I like to judge a show for myself, not by what others say, when "that 70's show" first came on I would not watch cause of the title, and now it is my most favorite sitcom.
Never judge a show or anything by the title, you may miss out on something good!!

No I do not base what I watch on what critics think, I will usually go with what my friends suggest since they know my tastes in what shows that I normally like to watch. Not that I always agree with them, but would listen to them before any critics. Sometimes I will find a new show that becomes a favorite just from flipping channels. Usually the movies at the theatres that are the good ones, are the same ones that the critics have trashed. In tv land the only thing that matters to keep a show is the ratings, in movie land is how much money is made at the box office. I cannot think of the names right now, but there have been some tv shows that I have liked, and was very suprised that they have been cancelled stating low ratings.
The only time I watch where something is at are books, are they on the bestsellers list but that also does not have to do with critics but with how other people thought when they read the book(s).

I agree,I don't go by what the critics say either.I judge for myself.Usually if they don't like a tv show or a movie I end up loving it.Don't know why we need critics anyway.

I have found that some of my favorite movies are the ones the critics slammed.
