.....

I wish Kelly would stop spouting her medical "knowledge". Sugar has not been proven to promote hyperactivity in children. Caffeine may be a problem as well as other additives in candy, but she is not doing a service by perpetuating the old wives tale of sugar being the major problem of hyperactivity on her national program. The blurb I saw on Entertainment Tonight promoting today's show has her son being brainwashed on this sugar nonsense of hers.

Margo:

Please check out 'hyperactivity' on Webb MD. You might want to study nutritional links to learn the disturbing links between diet/childhood obesity/ learning disabilities, etc!

Hey Margo, give your kids a cup of sugar about 1/2 hour before bedtime and see what happens! Have fun!

Merry Christmas everyone...........

After reading an article at WebMD called Busting the Sugar-Hyperactivity Myth, I'm not too sure we can totally blame sugar. The article URL is: SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMmy.webmd.com/content/article/14/1739_50032.htm?lastselectedguid={5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348

Hi Margo,
I've always been suspicious of the sugar/hyperactivity correlation....it seems Michael is just a very "busy" boy who may have heard his parents blame sugar enough, now he uses it as an "excuse" to get crazy and it becomes a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. This is all JMO but I've seen it happen with friends.

I don't think JJ and Joanna have appeared on the Christmas shows since Kelly's been around. I bet they are thanking their lucky stars for Kelly and her young family!

LOL...

Hmmm... Seems we would have to know that Michael was aware of the supposed sugar high and the relationship to being happy and active, or that he "needs" an excuse - he's a kid...

Hey, Kids get emotionally high... More often than not, when they are the center of attention - which parents now days seem to promote, and then blame the results on "sugar", or something other than lack of direction...

However... I am an old wife, and my mother was certainly a much "older wife", and I never heard, or even thought about a sugar connection until my kids had kids... My kids behaved as they behaved.. If their behavior was not acceptable - regardless of sugar intake, they heard about it.. And in most instances, corrected said behavior...

So, I would think this "sugar thing" is a "new" wive's tale, and has had a basis in some medical "report" post 1960...

And I moreover, personally think that most of this current gobbledygook/oldwives tales/kids behavior can be laid directly at the feet of Dr. Spock...

Not kidding here, but it seems to me, we would all be better off if "Mr." Spock had had as much influence on raising our kids as Dr. Spock did...

;0))

PK glad to not be in the current loop of raising little ones - watta task...
