My Score....3

Bao Viet Nguyen....Son of Indo-China Refugees

My Score....7

Jasmine Arteaga....Midget girl

A cute midget girl. She was adorable and could sing.

My Score....7

Draeh Hancock....Pink Ford Thunderbird

Pretty pink dress and different singing voice, but it was good. The judges agreed.

My Score...7

Rodrigo Cortes....$100,000 to charity

He was better than average, but he said he would give his winnings to charity. This griped Simon and Randy and they sent him packing. I don't think they believed him. He went home.

Another poor performance. No Hollywood for Ken.

My Score...3

Aaron Flora.....Surfer/Partridge Family

Yikes, go back to surfing, dude. That's where the judges sent him.

My Score...2

Joshua Gronner...Cowboy

Redneck. Couldn't sing. Obnoxious.
They sent him back to the range.

My Score...1

Katie Webber....Cheerleader

Cute girl and a good personality. Nice voice. The judges cheered her to the next round.

My Score...8

William Hung....Civil Engineer

Couldn't sing or dance. But, when told this by Simon, he was a good sport. He said, "I gave it my best and I have no regrets."

My Score...2

The Best of the Best

I gave three "8's", but I have to go with Jefferey Dingle as the best of the night.

The Worst of the Worst

I gave 5 "1's", but Joshua Gronner, the redneck cowboy, gets the worst for being bad and a sore loser.

25 made it from L.A. and 10 from San Francisco bringing the total to date...

101 Going To Hollywood!!

The "vertically challenged" girl is going to the next round? lol I just caught her walking in the room. What song did she sing and was she really that good?

The only other people I caught was the girl, and her friend, who had to be escorted out of the building. I think Randy said she was singing with her lips closed? Something like that. lol Man, they couldn't take "no" for an answer. The other person was the "big guy"....but I only heard him sing, was it Opera?, as he was being congratulated by his friends.

Redneck. Couldn't sing. Obnoxious.

"The "vertically challenged" girl is going to the next round? lol I just caught her walking in the room. What song did she sing and was she really that good? "

Oh, my gosh...I just got done reading the other thread with all your venom....now you're attacking someone with a disability? You must really be more insecure than I thought....

"Could she really sing, even though she was short??" is like saying, "Can she really run, even though she has no hair?" There's no relation!!!

gailsie
01-28-2004, 04:25 PM
Skeeter, you are a real piece of work.

You know darn well that's not what V meant but yet you choose to read what you "want" into our threads.

As far as the other thread goes, neither V (or me) had anything to do with any venom. Sheesh!!

It's obvious you can't stand either one of us--so do yourself a favor and just skip over our posts.

Skeeter
01-28-2004, 04:30 PM
What does that mean? V is the one that wrote it, as if she couldn't believe it. Read for yourself.

I've tried to give you the benefit of the doubt...really I have...but the two of you cannot cut anyone a break. You don't have to be defensive. I didn't peg either of you in the other thread, so if you took offense, that's your own conscience. None of us will ever know if it was the two of you, and I don't care....and honestly, I hope it wasn't either of you. I would hope you couldn't be that way.

gailsie

<<<I just got done reading the other post with all your venom.>>>

<<<I didn't peg either of you in the other thread.>>>>

What the heck do you call that??

V was responding to JR's post where he called the girl a midget.

I'm through with you, Skeeter.

ZZZZZ
01-28-2004, 04:47 PM
Oh my, this thread took a lovely turn... LOL

See what YOU caused, yet again V..? LOL!

PK...
01-28-2004, 04:48 PM
OK...

Just when you think it's ok to get back in the posting pool...

If the girl was indeed a midget, then "vertically challenged" was condescending... If she was not a midget/little person, then not so much, but still unnecessary, and unflattering...

But, Skeeter, if the Gailsie is 'through with you' you are well ahead of the game...

;0))

PK

V..
01-28-2004, 04:53 PM
Oh man. lol

Skeeter.....I thought vertically challenged was less offensive than calling the girl a midget. (which is what JR called her) I, personally, don't have a problem with either description, just thought mine was more politically correct.

Do me a favor....ignore my posts. If I said the world was round you'd find something wrong with what I said. lol

V..
01-28-2004, 04:55 PM
To ZZZZZZZZZ,

lol You are very perceptive.

Still want to know the song she sang. J.R., you here?

ZZZZZ
01-28-2004, 05:02 PM
ROFL!!!

I thought the same thing you did V.. Isn't "vertically challenged" supposed to be the PC term? J.R. called her "midget" and I thought that was supposed to be the offensive one?

Oh well, I guess you never know what will offend people... lol

PK...
01-28-2004, 05:15 PM
Maybe not, Z.. and V...

Before you ridicule me for taking my precious time to look it up... Let me remind you, at least I gave a damn...

6. Names and Labels: Social, Racial, and Ethnic Terms

§ 25. differently abled
The term differently abled is sometimes proposed as a substitute for disabled or handicapped. Differently abled emphasizes the fact that many people with disabilities are quite capable of accomplishing a particular task or performing a particular function, only in a different manner or taking more time or effort than people without the disability in question. It can also be taken to mean that a person who is incapable of one act may nevertheless be capable of many or even most others. These are useful reminders, but the fact remains that differently abled has won little acceptance among the general public and is often criticized as being both awkward and condescending. 1

An even more notorious example is the use of challenged in combinations, such as physically challenged, that are normally formed with handicapped or disabled. The purpose of this proposed substitution is to emphasize the positive aspect of the challenge that a particular condition presents over the negative aspect of hindrance or incapacity. However, the widespread parody of this usage in such expressions as vertically challenged for “short” or melanin challenged for “white” has effectively eliminated this construction as a serious alternative to disabled or handicapped.

ZZZZZ
01-28-2004, 05:27 PM
Thanks for taking the time to look it up, PK.. OK, so "challenged" is out, "differently abled" is in... I'll try to remember that...

Still the article didn't mention anything about this specific handicap... is it still OK to say "midget" or isn't it?

Anyway... So there you go V.. thanks to PK that's all the proof that's needed to determine that YOU are indeed the cause of the venom in this thread!

01-28-2004, 09:47 PM
Well, lets take a look at the controversy...

(V)

"The "vertically challenged" girl is going to the next round? lol I just caught her walking in the room. What song did she sing and was she really that good? "

(Skeeter)

Oh, my gosh...I just got done reading the other thread with all your venom....now you're attacking someone with a disability? You must really be more insecure than I thought....
"Could she really sing, even though she was short??" is like saying,

(J.R.)

Nope, Skeeter, V didn't say. I don't see an attack in V's post. Mentioning someone's disability is not an attack.

J.R.

That's just liberalism run wild.

Yikes. I must admit...I am not sure what some little people consider offensive...maybe "little people" ? I mean one of the guys last night on the Bachelorette called Merideth "stretch". It is a tricky area.....he got a rose.

Well, anyways...loved the rundown J.R.

I thought the kid who was given the question about the million was robbed. He is just a kid, he was better than some, and it was unfair to judge him on that answer. His voice was good enough to advance IMO. He was really crying and hurt, which made him look like a sweet kid to me...I think his answer was genuine.

Also the "Shaft" guy. lol He only sang two lines and he got the hook, yet they let horrid singers do the whole song. He might have picked it up, had they given him a second more. Mean of them. These poor kids wait around several days, anticipating, worrying, and probably terribly nervous, and that is all they allowed him? I have heard plenty of them start out a bit weak, and then finish up strong. He might have stunk, but we will never know.

At least the pimp made his gal sing on, so we could be positive. lol

SLA
01-29-2004, 06:01 AM
I thought that "little person" was the most politically correct term right now.

JMO!

V..
01-29-2004, 08:39 AM
To: J.R. & ZZZZZ,

Anyone for doing lunch? lol We can discuss the correctness of addressing ones disability/ies.....and, more importantly, one of you can tell me the song the "girl" sang? lol

lmroland
01-29-2004, 09:10 AM
<<The "vertically challenged" girl is going to the next round?lol What song did she sing and was she really that good?>>

OK...here is my 2 cents.I believe V used the proper term to describe this person HOWEVER I don't undestand the whole comment in the first place.

I mean why the "lol" and why wouldn't she have been "that good" in the first place? It seems to me,and I'll go out on a limb here and assume it's what Skeeter meant, that V was implying that because the girl was indeed "vertically challenged" that she (that would be V)found it funny that she could sing in the first place.(hence the 'lol' and 'was she really that good in the first place')...JMO of course.

And BTW, sorry Skeeter. It's not the first time that Galsie said she was through with someone so don't get your hopes up.lol

Cassandra
01-29-2004, 09:28 AM
I saw the vertically challenged midget, little person, and she sang decently....I just can't remember the name of the song. I thought she was sweet and her mother seemed very proud of her.

Skeeter
01-29-2004, 09:34 AM
OK....I'm going to say one more thing about this and I'm done. My point was what did her height have to do with whether or not she could sing, which was the way V made it sound. If that's not what she meant, I'm sorry.

If you want to be truly PC, the height is not an issue. How tall is Ruben Studdard? How tall is Kelly Clarkson? We don't know and really don't care. What you want to know is whether or not they can sing, right? Isn't that what the show is all about.

People with disabilities (the proper way to say it, they are people first) want to be recognized for their skills and abilities, not their disabilities. That's my point. Take it for what it's worth.

Joy your day, all!!

:)

Skeeter

V..
01-29-2004, 09:38 AM
Thanks Cassandra. I saw the shows previews about her but I couldn't tell one way or the other if she was going to be good or not. With J.R.'s "7" and your post, she was one of the good ones. lol

Scoops
01-29-2004, 09:46 AM
She sang a Christina Aguilera song...not sure which one...
I thought she was just o.k. J.R. was more generous. I was glad to see her go on though for numerous other reasons.

Now I felt V was wondering if "she was really that good" because J.R. gave her a 7....which is exactly what V did mean I see.

I think you can put whatever spin you want on the printed word....J.R. called her "midget girl"...which is a tad more insulting than vertically challenged for sure...but J.R. admitted that, and that is fine with me.

Skeeter you are a kindhearted soul. But we all know that already.

Cassandra

01-29-2004, 12:18 PM
The midget comment wasn't an insult because there was no one here to insult.

In these days and times, it seems so many are just looking for ways to be insulted.

Whatever happened to having a sense of humor and not taking things so seriously.

I think political correctness is an attempt to stop freedom of thought and speech. Of course, only those arbiters of PC get to decide what's correct and what's not.

I don't need some vague authority telling me about manners and how I should talk to people. I think I have enough sense and decency to know that myself.

J.R.
01-29-2004, 12:26 PM
Jasmine Arteaga sang "I'll Turn To You" by Christina Aguilera.

J.R.
01-29-2004, 12:51 PM
(Skeeter)

If you want to be truly PC, the height is not an issue.

(J.R.)

No, PC says you shouldn't speak about it except for the way they tell you should.

Not happening.

(Skeeter)

How tall is Ruben Studdard? How tall is Kelly Clarkson? We don't know and really don't care. What you want to know is whether or not they can sing, right? Isn't that what the show is all about.

(J.R.)

No, it's not. You can't stop human nature because you want to.

Looks, personality, stage presence, attire, and performance also matter.

It's the overall package.

Kelly and Ruben are really good singers, but did you notice that they're two of the nicest and most humblest people you ever met.

Did you think they would have won if they hadn't been?

V..
01-29-2004, 01:19 PM
To J.R.,

I guess I should have used the word midget. lol I tried to be PC here and look where it got me. (thanks for the name of the song, btw)

Re: Skeeter being "kindhearted."

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder, or so to speak.....if she were that kindhearted I'd think (I could be wrong) she would have stepped up to the plate and posted something when "mama PK" and cousins "Danielle & ET" started using profanity and calling me stupid, a liar and something else that I forget right now.

However, "kindhearted skeeter" posted a "not so nice" post about me/to me questioning my reason for using the phrase "vertically challenged. lol Kindehearted? Don't think so.

So, I respectfully disagree.

Bottom line---You WOULDN'T know kindhearted if it hit you in the nose!

Skeeter is one of the nicest, most respected and "kindhearted" posters on the board.

As for Skeeter stepping up to the plate to defend you....well come on V!!..do you really think for one little second that you would deserve that from Skeeter??I think not!

I respectfully disagree with you!!

PK... I see that you are still as blind a bat when it comes to defending your brood, at all costs!

Yes, of course I'M the one who's in "attack mode" here, not lmroland, even though I did nothing more than quote her own post "Bottom line---You WOULDN'T know kindhearted if it hit you in the nose!" and turned it back around on her.

That's some dream world you're living in PK, LOL!!!

Two posters make the exact same statement, and yet to you only one of them is in "attack mode".

You're a real piece of work! LOL

My, my, my...

Apparently someone couldn't sleep until she got that off her chest.. Perhaps I was wrong about the "amoral" sleeping like babies...

Curious... YOU followed over here to "protect" your brood, now didn't you... And yes you are STILL in attack mode...

Are all your 'buttons' hot wired? Shoot, I'm not even trying to push them...

;0))

PK suggesting you simply adopt the user name PitBull...

OK...
01-30-2004, 11:37 PM
And perhaps you should adopt the name "Subway" in reference to your tunnel vision. Or perhaps "Old Bat" would be better, since you are as blind as one.

Naturally, PK, you would attack me by referencing the late night time that I posted rather than actually address the content of my post, since that's one of your typical ways of responding. Perhaps we should just assign that response a number to save you the trouble of writing it out each time? How about if we just call that one number 3?

LOL

PK...
01-31-2004, 04:51 AM
LOL...

Yep, a pit bull with a bone in her mouth... Look out there, you are going to worry it to death..

When your content is so lacking, what's to discuss... You accused me of being the attacker, and then your attacks have been worse and more personal than anything I have ever seen on this board before... If you recall, YOU came after me, in defense of YOUR brood..

And you "seem" to stay up late at night attempting to compose the ultimate insult... I suggest your time would be better spent sleeping, cause the insults are puny at best... And the rest might put you in a better mood..

However, you are becoming just a bit tedious in your continuous tirades, so why don't you crawl back under your rock..

;0))

PK hoping you have a nice weekend - really, do think about those full spectrum lights...

For those of you (J.R.especially) who think that political correctness is something new...

I was just watching a Carol Burnett Show re-run circa 1975...too funny, the director changing ethnic sounding names to Smith and Jones and then a black actor saying "What's up with Jones???"...
..You'd have to see it, but they proved a point.

Anyway, one thing is for sure...Political Correctness is nothing new..

Jinh

Skeeter
01-31-2004, 04:21 PM
You know what, Jinh? I don't even think it's political correctness (although I realize that's the term I used) as much as it is doing or saying the right thing. I am not one of those people that goes off on every little thing, but (in the case of the woman on American Idol) I have worked with people with disabilities enough to know how they want to be treated. Yes, I'm sure someone will say I don't know how everyone wants to be treated, but I know how a lot of them do. To point out one's stature is not what they want.

:)

Have a great night!!!

As you know, I live in a pretty small town...
There's a handicapped woman here that has been very vocal about hadicap accessibility..she is really a crusader for the cause - that's a great thing unto itself, but I have to say she is the most unpleasant, defensive person I've ever met. It's sad to say, but I don't know one person that likes her..: (

I'm not sure where this is going, except to say, that I wish she could be a nicer person, honestly, no one dares say boo to her for fear of her wrath : (

Whatever...
