View Full Version : Call-ins/Getting on the Air

I found this interesting. Have QVC on now (background)...and Leah Williams was talking about the time when she was new as a host, and was watching at home and called in to order something or other. And she was asked whether she wanted to speak to the host. It was Bob Bowersox. Leah was laughing, telling the story, saying how she really didn't know Bob that well at the time and didn't think it would be a good idea for her to say yes. So she just said no thanks.
Then the model (Joy?...calm down all you guys!)...also said she'd been asked if she wanted to talk on air one time when she was ordering by phone.
Leah's point was that getting on the air was a totally random thing. "luck of the draw." So I guess those type of testimonials are believable.
But then there's the "testimonial line," right? And those somehow, don't always ring true. On International Day of Women, two women in a row called in for the Nick Chavez show. Both had undergone a traumatic illness and had stories about how wonderful the products were. Now, I don't doubt the veracity of these women...I'm sure they were or had ill...and found the products helped, but I also believe that these calls are lined up in advance.
Am I being overly cynical?

Hi Shopreturn. I've called in on the testimonial line a number of times and gotten on air. Haven't done it in a few years, but because of my experience, I don't believe the calls are set up.

I called in for some jewelry once when Lisa Robertson was hosting, and the operator asked me if I would like to speak to her. We had a nice chat--it was totally random--and it was the regular telephone line, not the testimonial line.

I never got through on a regular phone call (was asked to speak and said OK but they said time had run out on the product) but did talk on air once on a testimonial call for a computer.

I have come close to talking to a QVC hottie twice. Once with Lisa Mason and the other time with Christa.
Both times some woman caller ahead of me asked a loooong question and they ran out of time before they got to me. And I was next!!!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!
I have shopped from QVC for years.... I can't even tell you how many. My first purchase was back in the CVN days. Anyway, all these years I had never been asked to talk on air until this past November. What really suprised me is that it was on the automated ordering line, never knew they took callers from there. I spoke with David Veneable. This remains the only time I had been asked to talk on air.
A friend of mine just recently started purchasing from QVC and she got asked to talk on air within a couple weeks of her first purchase.
On the Quacker Cruise one of the ladies at my dining room table said that she gets asked to talk on air all the time.

Once I got to talk to Kathy Levine and Tova Borgnine for a TSV, once with Jill Bauer during a Stoneform show, and the last was with Leah Willliams for a Dialogue TSV. I have all three on tape. These were calls from the regular order enrty line. Also, one time I called on the teatimonial line to talk to Carolyn Pollack and Jill again since I had the SW item on air, and accidently hung up! I called back but there was not enough time for me anyway.

I have been ordering far too long to admit. But I often get asked if I would like to speak on air. I have never done it, for fear of soundling like a complete and utter goober.

HHI, DON'T FEEL THAT WAY!!! From what we've come to know of you here at the bb, there's NO WAY you'd "sound like a goober"!!!! Besides, if you get the opportunity to speak on the air, you'll have to give a special "hello" to all of your buds here! Good Luck; we'll be listening!

Don't worry HHIgirl, I'm sure you'll do fine if you make it on the air.
Juts try not to think about all the MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people who will be listening to your every word.
No pressure though. ;)
Ain't I a stinker. Haha!

LOL! OK, we have seen from my previous postings that I am a HUGE goober. And also if I got to talk with someone I admire I would be a HUGE dweeb! Ok, I admit it. I have a boyfriend whom I adore and love very much but you could classify me as having a crush on the Lisa's.

Another woman with a crush on Lisa Robertson?!?! And also Lisa Mason!!
This is one cool board.
Btw, any chance of a cat fight between you and Doc over Lisa R? ;)

Well, ummm...there is something to think about. LOL. I think Doc declared her love first so she is first inline!

LOL! NO worries. You are still at the CLEAN BB. I still have my clothes on, I didn't throw a chair and I really don't like to fight. Ok, I don't even know how. I wouldn't want to break a nail.

Darn it!

Don't worry SBTZ, as long as I'm here it won't be totally clean. ;)

Whew...good to know...
I'd like to think that there's at least one or two folks on this board I can live viacriously through! ;)

This is my very first post on this board and I don't really have anything to add to this topic. I had a horrible time getting registered etc. so I just basically wanted to see if it worked. Hey I think I have a crush on Lisa R. too. But I'm happily married, just for the record. LOL

I've been asked three or four times to speak on the air and here all this time I've been thinking it was because I'm SPECIAL!
The weird thing is it's always been when I'm ordering something from a Valerie Parr Hill show. Maybe they need more callers during those shows, to dilute the sugar content and keep viewers from going into insulin shock.

LOL! Yeah those Lisa Mason and Valerie shows do exceed the daily recommended amount of sugar content don't they?

Oh Darling Honey Sweetie-Pie, everything is just so precious, too cute for words, don't you think? (kiss kiss) But we're just your humble presenters (hug hug), and must ever so graciously point out that all the credit goes to that incredible Hanna family, which evidently numbers in the thousands and never sleeps, in order to produce the vast number of products purchased by you, our wonderful QVC viewers. (gush gush)

On QVC I don't believe the on-line calls are a set up either. OTOH, on HSN I know for a fact that some of them are but that's another Jerry Springer show.
Christa's a hottie??? GADZOOKS, I don't think so! LOL

Curvigirl, you're at it again! MMFOMCL!
Your 'observation' about the astounding accomplishments of that happy little Hanna family is so hilarious! I've often wondered how the heck all those individually 'handcrafted' items get done in time for all those orders! Maybe the family puts speed in their oatmeal.

Thanks for the laughs guys! Enjoyed your postings :) Over the years, I have spoken on the air a few times. First with Donna Harfenist, and I won $250 with the old word scramble game! I was SO excited! A few years later, I spoke with Jane, Judy, Dan W., and (please don't boo/hiss!) Rick.
I got on the air today on the Perricone show. I said hello I'm Desi and I'm saying hello to my friends out there.... Did anyone hear?
Any of the newbies ever been on the air?

AWESOME Desi!! I even watched that show but must have started watching after you were on or was out of the room or something. Anyway congrats that you got on.
Darn. but thanks EskieRuth.

desi, I didn't catch that show today :( Sorry I missed hearing you on air. What fun!! What did you buy? Or, was your call a testimonial? Congratulations... bet you did a great job!
I'll give you three guesses what I was buying....
Of course what else beauty products. Dr. Perricone that is.
I always use automated ordering but today I had a question about the eye cream duo set and drove the poor woman crazy with all my questions that she begged me to go on the air. First, I was reluctant even though I really wanted to. Then I thought it would be a hoot to say hi to all of you. Given what we all had been through I thought it would spark some life back into this board but I'm happy to see things are getting back to normal anyway.
Next time, momof2, I'll say my name slower and louder and often.

Desi, how kool you were on the air. Sorry I missed it. Congrats.
I have spoken to Kathy Levine and Judy Crowell. I was asked to speak to Lisa M and Valerie Parr Hill, but they ran out of time. That's my luck, as usual.
Havent been asked in quite sometime, mayhaps because I use auto ordering.

I talked to Lisa R. once and actually have it on videotape! I'll have to dig that out again!
didn't want to watch myself then and now 'cause I can't stand the sound of my voice and I didn't want that to distract myself. Great that you got it on tape. 'Stel lol
