.............and now we're back to nonsense newschat. Oh brother, today was terrible.

Where was Kelly going with the salary talk? Geeze, I wanted to hear more of what people are making. How did it go from the celebs to Kelly and her cleaning people's homes? lol (I'm not even going to comment on her constant talk about her drinking and to what extent....Ugh).

Yeah, darn! I wished the fun would have lasted more than an hour with Regis and Kelly this morning. They are so funny together.

Couldn't agree with you more, V. Host chat was awful. I felt that she got nervous when Regis tried to "out" her high lifestyle, so she just started rambling to distract him. In her defense, I don't know why he does that. He must know that she tries to maintain an image of being "of the people." They seem to be "competing" too much....not an easy give-and-take.

The drinking talk doesn't bother me at all...I know it's just chatter.

Have a good day!

The interview with Finola was fun though, maybe more so for me because I was a big soap fan...... it kind of made up for the lackluster chat, imo.

Here's some more info on Jay Leno, V...

I guess it's never enough for some! :)

'NBC Signs Jay Leno to Contract Extension

Mar 30, 10:50 AM (ET)

By DAVID BAUDER

NEW YORK (AP) - NBC has inked late-night television's ratings king, Jay Leno, to a contract extension that will keep him as "Tonight" show host until the end of 2009.

Leno's contract had been due to expire at the end of next year.

Leno, who replaced Johnny Carson as "Tonight" show host in 1992, eclipsed CBS rival David Letterman in the ratings during the 1995-96 season and hasn't looked back.

"Jay has only gotten stronger in the ratings, and it is important to NBC to secure him through the decade to continue our dominance in late-night," NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks said Tuesday.

This season, both late-night hosts have increased their audiences, but Leno's margin of victory has gotten wider. Leno is averaging 6.2 million viewers a night this season, and Letterman is at 4.4 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Hollywood Reporter, quoting unnamed sources, said it was believed Leno would make between $25 million and $27 million per year. He was said to make under $20 million annually in his last deal.

Although he pronounced himself happy with the terms, Leno told The New York Times that "I'm still not making Dave money." Letterman reportedly makes about $31 million a year.

Leno supplements his income each year through appearances as a stand-up comedian, outside work that Letterman does not do.

Although Leno gets the viewers, Letterman has won more critical plaudits. Letterman's "Late Show" won the Emmy Award for best variety show for five straight years, until Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart won in 2003.

Leno has won the award once, in 1995.

Leno's contract extension leaves up in the air the future of Conan O'Brien, who has no obvious path for advancement at NBC from his 12:35 a.m. time slot as host of the "Late Night" show. O'Brien is signed through 2005; Marks said contract negotiations haven't opened with him.

"There's room for both Conan and Jay at NBC and we're hopeful that we'll have a long relationship that extends into the future with both hosts," Marks said.'

This line cracked me up, "Leno supplements his income each year through appearances as a stand-up comedian, outside work that Letterman does not do. "

Especially in light of our "conversation" last week that said that he banks all of his show money. In fact, that was my first thought this morning when they mentioned his raise....

I still think celebrities are way overpaid, but I guess there is nothing I can do about it!!

Hey! Funny Chat today...Loved it!

<<<How did it go from the celebs to Kelly and her cleaning people's homes?>> Gee, who knows V..? I thought it was FUNNY and the audience loved it...lighten up!

I would rather listen to spontaneous, funny chat than Regis talking baseball anyday...

Oh well, did I say I enjoyed the show? lol

I agree with Susan and V - host chat was awful IMO. Kelly's phoney "I'm just a regular kind of gal" really bothers me -- she and Mark (thanks to her) are not "middle class" - they are RICH and should be proud of it! But there are a lot of people who are taken in by the "down to earth" image she portrays when what she is doing IMO is acting; she's pretty good at the humble act and a lot of you choose to buy it.

V..

I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought newschat was awful. lol

<<< In her defense, I don't know why he does that. He must know that she tries to maintain an image of being "of the people.">>>

I say "good for Reege." lol Heck, she's always asking him how much he makes and insinuating he's another Donald Trump. If it's fair game for her to put him on the spot, then "go for it Reege." No matter who you are, I think talking about one's salary is uncomfortable for everyone.

One thing Regis' fans should be happy about, Regis beat Kelly in the spelling bee. I know they said it was a tie, but Kelly had help in every single one of her words, and Regis spelled the first one by himself. So Regis did win, IMO. That's the only kind of competition the Reegster can beat Kelly in. Gelman should stage a few more games like that to help make Regis stand out.

I don't know why the news clippings bother some so much. Regis is the one who brings them out every morning, so it must be him who needs them, huh?

And Kelly certainly doesn't hold the corner on the market for the 'How dumb am I?' schtick. Every day Regis has a story or some instance where he calls attention to his ineptness at finding himself or not being able to make simple things work.

Did I say it's good to have Kelly back?

SavhLaney
03-30-2004, 09:46 AM
I think that Kelly is genuinely appreciative of the success she has had, so she doesn't feel the need to flaunt it. Joy Philbin, who didn't even earn the money she loves to spend, should take some lessons from Kelly.

Hi Ummm. Regis is definitely not fooled by the humble act.

Did you see this regarding Stan Rosenfield and his clients boycotting "E!"? (He's Kelly's publicist.) I bet she was ticked at their special "It's Good To Be....Kelly Ripa"

<<Concerns over two shows in particular

Stars and their publicists are incensed, particularly with two of the channel's shows: "E! True Hollywood Story," which focuses on the dark side of stardom, and "Celebrities Uncensored," a clip show of paparazzi footage.

An episode of the latter one recent week peeked at Brooke Shields pumping her own gas and sniffed that since she doesn't have a TV show anymore, she can't afford full service. "Brooke pinches pennies," scolded the narrator. Another segment knocked Keanu Reeves's fashion sense; still another made fun of former first lady Nancy Reagan for not autographing a baseball.

"Obviously the standards have dropped tremendously," complained publicist Alan Neirob of Rogers & Cowan, a public-relations firm whose clients include Mel Gibson, John Travolta and R&B singer Beyonce. "They're free to do whatever they want, but they're jeopardizing a lot of relationships."

Until recently, the worst thing a star had to fear from E! was Joan Rivers knocking their outfit on the red carpet leading to the latest awards show.

Will Smith was so incensed over an E! program about his love life that the network was banned from press events and the premiere of "Bad Boys II," according to Smith's publicist, Stan Rosenfield. His other clients, including George Clooney and Kelly Ripa, also are steering clear of E!>>

V, you're right that the topic is fair game....she does it to him all the time....I just hate to see them degenerate into one-upmanship, who can tweak the other one the hardest.....they don't come across as good-natured about it sometimes....JMO.

You got that right SavhLaney! Regis is the one who's always name dropping his rich friends! HE'S the one who's hung up on how wealthy he is, and seems to enjoy flaunting it! He was just fussing with JOy last week about going to the restaurant that's supposed to attract the rich & famous, and they were the only rich & famous ones there! lol

Ummm
03-30-2004, 10:37 AM
I don't see anything wrong with being rich and famous and flaunting it if that's what you are. I think Regis and Joy, too, for that matter, are being HONEST. They are rich, they do have rich friends, they do go to expensive places, and if Joy hasn't earned the majority of the dough, so what -- neither has Mark. They both had the good sense to marry well. I see Kelly as rich and famous and PHONEY. I don't see why if you are rich you can't act rich - it's nothing to be ashamed of - wear it with pride!!!

Phoney
03-30-2004, 10:49 AM
Is right Ummm. In almost every interview Kelly tells of how she really just wants to stay at home and take care of her kids, does not want them brought up by Nannies! Oh sure, she wants that, that is why she is living and flaunting the rich lifestyle. She LOVES to be 'The rich and famous' but she wants her fans to believe the phoney publicity she hands out,

She has more that enough money now, to retire and raise her kids herself, if that is what shw wanted. Sure would be the best for her small children, but face the facts, she lies, she loves being rich, good, but for gosh sakes, admit it and stop playing little miss homebody.

Jinh
03-30-2004, 10:54 AM
I think Kelly is torn between her loving the idea of richness and fame and her background. Her parents (especially her dad) have a very strong 'work ethic'...I remember not long after she got the Live! job she said her mom told her "Just don't get too big for your britches, young lady!"

I honestly think she struggles for a balance...she'll find it, I'm sure.

My, my, my. Looks like some people just don't like Kelly having money and having the good sense not to act all high and mighty. If she flaunted it like Regis and Joy, I wouldn't be tuning in. It's her down-to-earth attitude that keep people coming back. I really have no idea how high-maintenance Joy can have her nose stuck up in the air so far without having nose bleeds. I'll take Kelly any day.

I agree with your post Jinh. Kelly does come from a working class family and didn't grow up with the riches and probably had to adjust to her new "station". But my point is she has had enough time with the good life to embrace it and own it. I just think she should be more honest..

And to that I'll add that she's funny, pretty and a really good wife and mom. If Kelly were like Regis, she might just ditch those beautiful kids and husband and pick up with a male version of Baby Joy. lol I suppose that's what some would like her to do.

Tina L.
03-30-2004, 02:04 PM
If Kelly flaunted her money and was high-maintenance "honest" wouldn't be a term some would use on her. More like "diva" or "smug" would be the mild terms they would use. Face it, no matter what she does, some people find the slightest reason to hate her.

When she was talking about how happy she is, I can imagine some people sitting there with smoke coming out of their ears! How can she be really successfull AND happy? How dare she when they wallow in their own miserable failure for a life? Then they have to Google something "bad" about her, anything, that would make them feel better.

I keep waiting for them to stop their Kelly slams, grow up and graduate to at least the 1st grade level. So very childish day-in-day-out. Same ole, same ole. Same slams just reworded and regurgitated. You'd think they would have something more useful to do in their oh so busy lives. Maybe they could go to more galas or go find their friend Lisac and stay there.

I don't know, this all seems so contrived, but yet so familiar...

First, V.. is crushed that she didn't find out about all the salaries supposedly mentioned in the <shudder> "cut out"...

Think we heard about Jay's and Dave's salaries. Seems to me that's all the Celebs mentioned in that particular "cut out"... (Further information was certainly available with a simple Google, if anyone was "really" interested...)

From there, we indict Kelly as a phoney (??) because she did not field the teasing from Regis the way some seem to think she should have? And then it is determined that it was NOT simple teasing? As usual, thoughts are being put in "heads" on simply conjecture, which is then presented as "fact", and as "fact", used to bash Kelly's character...

Good Grief... I have to laugh at the futility of it all. Whoever said it's all reguritated "crap" (OK, maybe "crap" is my own word..) is certainly right....

I have to agree that today's chat left a lot to be desired, but geez, it was certainly not the end of the world as we know it. We have survived many so-so chats in the past, and we will survive many more - or we will change the channel.

;0))

PK looking forward to tomorrow's show, as always...

My comment V,

We had a wonderful week of shows. Cannot comment on this week's show, I have not watched except for the first two minutes on Monday, when Kelly stated she was now to be know as "Brown Sugar". I then realized that part of my problem with Kelly is her voice, it grates on my nerves, so off went the TV and has not been back on during Live.

Hi Shell,

Long time no "see." lol

This week's newschats cannot even come close to what Regis and his guest hosts accomplished last week.......no comparison. Reege was great and so were his guests. He's a natural.... no one is better at what he does. (just ask Trump) lol

Ugh, the Brown Sugar comment. lol And, she's back to calling Reege her 'big man' or 'big daddy.'

I don't know why it bothers some so much that Kelly calls Reege 'her big man'. It's clear Regis LOVES it and expects her to think of him in that way. The only times he might resent it is when it crosses his mind that she's really being condescending to him by calling him that. lol Sort of like a mom calls her little boy, 'my big little man'. Come to think of it, that's probably why it bothers Regis' fans so much, huh? lol

This thing about money. I, personally, do not believe any of us who make comments on this board (Regis and Kelly's) are living in poverty. For from it, in fact. The one thing that does brother me is the large salaries paid to the wrong segment of our population, IMO. Sports, Motion picture and Television, all the dishonest CEO's, etc, etc, etc. (A large number of the above mentioned people do not live life styles that should be envied. Excessive drugs, alcohol........) What baseball pitcher is really worth 25,000,000 dollars? What I understand even less, is why someone would spend the amount of money it takes to go to a professional sports event? (Member's of my own family included.) Frankly, I want more for my money. I sometimes wonder where our country is headed!
Today is beautiful, tomorrow it is cloudy and rainy again.
Ya'll enjoy today and everyday.
