While friends and family are key to laughter, the survey also revealed
which celebrities make consumers laugh.
-- Twenty-nine percent of Americans pick Jay Leno as the late-night host
who creates the most instant laughter over David Letterman, at 24
percent.
-- By a wide margin, 41 percent of Americans think Eddie Murphy has the
best celebrity laugh followed by 18 percent for Julia Roberts, 13
percent for Jack Nicholson, and eight percent for Fran Drescher.
-- Twenty-nine percent of Americans pick Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman as
the most famous celebrity laugh from a movie or video, followed by 20
percent for Jack Nicholson as The Joker and 14 percent for Bart
Simpson.
-- Fifty-two percent of those surveyed identify Billy Crystal as the
comedian who most makes Americans laugh instantly, followed closely
at 43 percent by Adam Sandler, 31 percent for Mike Myers, 24 percent
for Will Ferrell and 13 percent for Molly Shannon.
-- To start the day with a laugh, 20 percent of consumers turn to "Good
Morning America" followed closely by 18 percent for the "Today" show
and 10 percent for "Fox & Friends."
-- Thirty-four percent of Americans pick Regis Philbin as the talk show
host who makes them laugh instantly, followed by 30 percent for Ellen
DeGeneres, and 21 percent for Kelly Ripa.
-- Watching a funny movie or TV show is preferred by 66 percent of
Americans for an instant laugh, followed by 14 percent who would
rather go to a comedy club or show.
