Got it today. Woo hoo! Had to send the husband over to the cable company to get a new cable box cuz the one on that tv is a bit older & doesn't have a serial port. (Poor guy is wrestling with 5 o'clock traffic trying to get home)

Maybe cuz I have a lot on my mind today or maybe cuz I'm getting older and stoopider by the minute, but it seems a bit more complicated to hook up than I thought so wish me luck. Hopefully I'll get it going tonight.

Spooie: They're ALWAYS more complicated and harder to hook up than one thinks! You're lucky to have such an accommodating husband; mine would be sputtering something about me buying another piece of (expletive deleted) from that (expletive deleted) QVC!

Heya Curvi! I am ofishally hooked up! :)

It was no picnic, believe me! I'm so pleased with myself. Oh, and as for him, well he builds banks and restaurants but he can't hook up a freaking VCR. Go figure. I have to do all the electronic stuff around here.

I'm the computer expert too...Now THAT'S scary!!

I'm lucky. Even though he drives me crazy half the time, he is VERY good to me. (He doesn't really know HALF the stuff I buy anyway. heh. I have my own checking acct & credit cards)

hey spooie, Congratulations! hope you enjoy it. I wanted to order one but I'm still hearing the gripes, moans and groans over the bike hubby has to put together for my son. It's only been sitting in my garage, in it's box, since November. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and...............find me a boyfriend.

Mechanically inclined I'm not. Have fun!!

Thanks, D! My first mission was to schedule it to record Passions (the show I HATE but watch every day...it's a complicated relationship! heh)

Spooie, I admire women who are handy with electrical equipment, I sure do wish I was. Your husband sounds great too. Let us know how the tivo dvd works out for you.

OC.... I took your suggestion and viewed the awfulplastic surgery web site. It is so sad that anyone would risk deforming their bodies with this type of surgery.
Doctors could put there skill to better use and help people who have birth defects or deformities due to accidents.

Hey Spooie!

How are things with you?
Got my TIVO player yesterday. I have not opened it yet, but will set it up this weekend. Let me know how you like yours when you get a chance!

Hey SBTZ! I'm digging it. Still reading the HUGE book but I've got most of it down. The recording is great. I set it to record a couple of shows on a repeating basis.

The thing where you can pause live TV ROCKS baby! I was watching Oprah (love love love her!) yesterday and my cleaning lady interrupted me right when I was trying to listen to something so I just went back several seconds and got to hear what I missed! Woo hoo! I really love that feature of Tivo! After I had done that several times I just caught it up during the next commercial. Worked like a charm. It still amazes me that you can go back & forth on LIVE tv!

Actually it was just a little more complicated than hooking up a VCR. With me, I have digital cable, so I had to coordinate a cable box, the television, and the tivo/dvd player (in a very small space BEHIND the unit!). I have yet to add the vcr into the mix. Figured I'd give my brain a rest. LOL

Hope ya love it. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Wow, I had to have my sister come over to hook up my DVD player. I am sooooooo not electronically inclined! I give you so much credit. My sister is in Louisiana now, so I'd have to wait for her to come home and visit to set it up for me! : )

Well, my dear Stel, it's (to quote David V) 'all about' reading the instructions and doing one thing at a time. That's how I have to do anything like that.

There are pictures and, usually, pretty clear instructions. I have to concentrate, however, so the husband can't be there asking a million questions. He, being a man and all, tends to just pick up parts and go 'what is this?' 'where does this go?' 'I think this is ...' SHUDDUP! heh I have to just tell him FOR THE BAZILLIONTH TIME that I am doing it as in the instructions starting with step one so stop asking me questions! Same with put-together furniture. I have to just follow the book and remove him from the room. LOL

Spooie, you hit it right on the head....I have to boot Pat's butt out of the room. They dive right in and grab parts willy nilly, and then think it is perfectly okay to have parts left over as if the manufacturer purposely gives you extras! Maybe an extra screw or washer, but not MAJOR parts!

Spooie...Spooie....

My TIVO is set up! Did it at 6 this morning... I have not used the record capability yet, but I do love the way you can stop and start live TV. I thought it was relativly easy to set up (less then 25 minutes), but I did not have to deal with the extra digital cable box like you did.

I think this was a worthwhile purchase for me...at least so far :)

I am so behind the times, technology speaking. My sister swears by TIVO -- and loves it! Maybe some day we will get it. Interesting to hear your comments about TIVO.

SBTZ - Congrats! It is cool, eh? My husband is going to buy me the upgrade to Tivo plus ($299 for a lifetime subscription) so that'll add even more fun. But, actually, it does everything I want with just the basic Tivo. The Plus just has more cool features.

For recording it is just WAY better than messing with tapes, unless it's something you want to keep on tape. For me, if it is something I want to add to my collection, I always buy the professional tape anyway. (Well, now I buy DVDs) BTW, you generally can't beat the prices at deepdiscountdvd.com and I've found just about everything I was ever looking for there - new OR old! Free shipping too. If I'm shopping for a DVD I always go there, buy.com, amazon.com and ecampus.com. Those seem to be the ones with the best prices and they all offer exceptional service!

Thanks for the info Spooie...let me know how you like the TIVO Plus, and if it's great, maybe I will buy that for myself for my birthday!

Thanks also for the DVD site info. I love all the Masterpiece Theatre presentations, and I have started a collection of the DVDs from that...they are not cheap, but well worth the money for me! I have never shopped on E-Bay...maybe I should look at trying to do that, and see if I can find PBS DVDs at a discount.

BTW, you can get a 45 day FREE trial of Tivo Plus! Just click on it on the menu. I think I'm going to do that (I can help but want to get something for free before buying it. hehe) and have him hold off on buying it til I use up the free time.

Also, there is a $50 rebate out there for buying this unit IF you do upgrade to Tivo Plus. I found it at tivo.com and on amazon.com.

Buying DVDs on ebay - I'd just be REAL careful from whom I purchase such items. There are a lot of crappy sellers in that category. Also, a lot of those who sell them from other countries (cheap knock offs I believe) too. It's generally worth it to me to maybe pay a little more to KNOW that I'm getting what I think I'm getting if ya know what I mean and, actually, you can often get a better price elsewhere because of free shipping...

spooie and mom, it's great that you are enjoying Tivo. Keep telling us about it. I still want to get it. I have to talk my other half into getting rid of digital cable - I think it is way to expensive.
Tivo sounds great!!! It is amazingly easy to reord stuff and I REALLY like that part that you can stop and replay. Doodle - out.

Thanks....I laughed when I typed it. Doodle out, will have to be my new goodbye.
We need to lighten up and get back to normal. I learned from watching and listening. You guys (girls) gave great advice today, maybe when the new posters think about it they will understand. And.......Doodle out.

Let's hope so Doodle...for now, I am back to using the good ol'ignore function!

I love your new "signature" good-bye...now put on a crisp white shirt and a fabulous piece of jewelry when you type it, and you will be "signature" all the way...love, love, love it! ;)
