WELCOME, WELCOME, HOW ARE YOU! WELCOME, GLAD TO HAVE YOU! Seriously, really glad to have you...we all are welcoming - but you'll see that when you put in threads or add to threads you tend to go there first and sometimes miss the main board (therefore miss new posts for a while). We all catch up....where are you from...if you don't mind sharing?

Hi, doggylover, what took you so long? Goodness, you didn't need to muster up "courage" to finally post after 3 months! But I guess I can imagine a little shyness on the minds of some folks. (Just not me. LOL) "Welcome". Or as Lisa Mason might say, "Come on in"!
If a canine connection influenced your screenname, what is it, if you don't mind my asking? It seems that the majority of us here have four-legged family memebers. (Or, if we don't, we love animals dearly.) Some of us also have tweetie-babies (I have a small parrot) too. There's a "directory" of members here which, in many cases, includes their animal-companion info. My family consists of (us), birdie, 3 generations of Golden Retrievers, 2 cats, some Koi and many large, exotic aviary birds. So, let us know about yours, too.

TURTLELADY and occaseshpr, you have been so nice to me. I don't know when I've ever felt so accepted or felt like someone was interested in my life. Yes, I am a very shy person, and I rarely talk in public because I am so shy. I love writing and reading. And yes, my four-legged child is my favorite person in the world. Our four-legged friends give us unconditional love, acceptance, and devotion whereas the two-legged friends don't always do so. My sweet dog is about 10 years old and a sweetheart. I love her. Thank you for your welcome.
Do you know if any of the QVC hosts have dogs and cats?

Doggylover, I just found your original post, and had I seen it beforehand, I would have welcomed you too.
I have a doggy too and I agree that they give unconditional love. I love my little boy to pieces. He is 3 years old, and too cute for words. (in my opinion)
Anywho, welcome again, have fun reading and posting.
If you don't mind, you can also share where you live and your first name.
I live in the western part of NY state, near the finger lakes, have one son, one doggy and one hubby.

bigfatstel, I didn't know you owned German Shepherds. I knew you had dogs but not what kind. I am a GSD lover. I lost mine over 12yrs ago but she was my heart dog. My springer is the love of my life, they are completely different. I was so heartbroken I couldn't bare to get another GSD at the time. Seems like only yesterday she crossed to the rainbow bridge.....

dogma, I got butterflies in my tummy when I saw that you mentioned the "rainbow bridge". When our beloved 17-yr.old male kitty, "Nicholas" died, one of our dearest friends sent me "The Rainbow Bridge" to comfort me. Since then, I realize that MANY people have seen and shared it. Now that I think of it, it should be posted here, what do you think?

Hi doggylover, I just joined this week after reading the posts for along time. I live in Syracuse,NY. I am also a dog lover. For many years I was involved with an adoption greyhound group in the area. I was on the board of directors in charge of meet and greets. We took the greyhounds into public events to find homes for them. Our groups greyhounds came from the Plainfield Track in Conn. But do to fibromyalgia can't do things anymore like that. I have 1 retired greyhound(Jake) he just turned 10 this month,we had to put our female greyhound(Mary) down a few months ago she had lymph node cancer. We also have a 3year old great dane(Zack) got him for my husbands birthday. And 2poodles one is mine Reggie 3yrs and one is my daghters LOla 4mos. Someone asked me how old my daughter is she is 17.

Hi Dogma--
I am a GSD freak. Believe it or not, when my first husband and I were going to get a dog, I wanted a long haired Chijuajua (I am sure that's spelled wrong), but he always wanted a BIG German Shepherd from Germany from the working lines. Well, we got Klaus. The husband got a girlfriend 6 months later and left Klaus and I, and the rest is history! I had the WORSE time with Klaus--he was going thru his terrible teenage time, was incredibly strong, and decided he was the alpha and I was the packmate. I even checked into donating him to my local sheriffs dept. to be a police dog. I am a firm believer that pets are NOT disposable, and knew Klaus and I had to work things out. After an ugly incident where he knocked me over in the middle of my street and pinned me down and clamped onto my arm, I took him to private obedience and we worked things out over the course of a couple of years. He is an angel. He got me thru some horrible times in my life.
We competed in agility and obedience until a horrible incident a couple years ago. My piece of crap neighbor kid smashed his leg with a golf club ON MY PROPERTY. Klaus is now lame in that leg--breaks my heart to see it flop around. We can't compete any more, but I try to treat him the same--walks and frisbee are still okay for him. I spend thousands of dollars and took him to the top speSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMt in the country, but the damage is in his nerves, and can't be repaired. My husband had to stop me from beating the neighbor kid to death with said golf club.
So, I got Ava in hopes to continue on with agility. But, she came to me with an undetected broken elbow, and a joint disorder called United Anconeal Process. She had suregery as a pup, and now we can't do agility becuase the joint isn't stable. We did compete in obedience ONCE. Ava didn't kill any other dogs, bite me, or run out of the ring and steal some kid's candy, so, to us, it was a HUGE victory!
Dogma, I know how GSD's imprint on your heart, and I can tell you miss your's horribly. You can share mine electronically, okay? I will tell you the Adventures of Ava, and you can laugh at her without having to replace the wrecked items, or clean up when she goes on a tangent, okay?
First step--go to their web-site and get aquainted. It's at www.gsraw.com, click on Happy Endings, and scroll 1/2 way down and click on Klaus and Ava. Get to know them, and I will share. Springers are cool too, but I couldn't live without my GSD's.

bigfatstel your post brought tears to my eyes. Yes, I miss her terribly and I have her ashes with me. I've been to your site and saw you dogs I just didn't mention it, because I couldn't. I hope something was done to that kid...I blame the parents for not teaching them to respect animals.
Now for a laugh..Kelly and I did (or tried to do) agility but she froze at the top of the A-Frame and we couldn't get her down. I had to crawl up it and bring her down..trust me 100lbs ago that was a site to see, lol. Needless to say agility was not going to be her bag :-). Never a day goes by that she doesn't give me a laugh, I so enjoy her company.

Joyce, Klaus and Ava are beautiful. I had dogs all my life, and one cat for 14 years.
I live in a condo that does not allow pets. I might be able to sneak in a turtle. Don't laugh I bought one for my kids and I enjoyed having him. I also love parakeets and trained a few to talk.
Your neighbors kid must be sick and he really does need to see a shrink. Thank God that Klaus is not in pain.

Gotta tell ya, Stel, I would have gone afta that miserable kid. And woulda called da sheriff on him. sick kid. You know when kids do that to animals, they grow up to do it to humans.
Im so sorry about your babies, but they have a good home and lots of lovin, and that's a good thing.

Welcome doggylover and Sopie. A big welcome to both of you. I also am a doggy lover. I had always had cats all my life, except for a couple hunting dogs that my dad had chained up in the yard which we weren't allowed to play with. My first husband wouldn't allow us to have a dog. Said they were too much work but as I think about it now, he was scared to death of dogs. It breaks my heart that my little boys never got to have a dog. They are now BIG boys (25 & 27) and could take or leave dogs. My current husband and I have two American Eskimo dogs. He had had Eskies before and wanted one so badly and I finally gave in. It was the happiest day of my life I think when I got to know Boca, our first eskie. I had no idea dogs could be soooo loving and wonderful pets. They love us unconditionally. I always loved my cats but I'll tell you I will NEVER be without a dog around. I just love my eskies. They are beautiful plus they are real lovers and very loyal to their owners. Our second dog is Aspen. Welcome to the BB hope you continue to enjoy!!

EskieRuth, thanks for sharing your background story regarding your Eskimos. (Hence, the name, we can assume!) One thing that popped in to my mind when I read the name Boca in your post, is that I sometimes purchase "Boca" products (burgers, ground "meat", etc., made from soy protein) and thought that it'd be funny if your doggies enjoyed that! Your Boca could be a spokesdog for them! LOL
Boy, you fit right in with the masses here of animal lovers! If there were NOTHING else we all had in common, it wouldn't matter, because we all share that respect and love. My family is people, dogs, cats, birds, pondfish. (And not necessarily in that order!)

Occaseshpr. . .Everytime I see Boca Bergers etc. in the store I go "No I don't want them to eat my dog!!" She was already named when we got her. We got her from a rescue facility in Florida the lady there said her original name was Bokie but she thought Boca had more class than to be a Bokie, hence the name Boca. I think she called her Boca after Boca Raton, Florida but I'm not at all sure about that. I thought it was interesting that when we got Aspen, our other eskie, from the same lady that we had 2 eskies with 2 resort town names. Anyway, just a little more trivia. Thanks for responding. This board is such fun
