Thinking of you PK, and all other former Texans, and Texan wannabees........it is now officially SUMMER IN TEXAS!!!!!

A TEXAS BLESSING !

Bless this house, oh Lord, we cry.
Please keep it cool in mid-July.
Bless the walls where termites dine,
while ants and roaches march in time.
Bless our yard where spiders pass
fire ant castles in the grass.
Bless the garage, a home to please
carpenter beetles, ticks and fleas.
Bless the love bugs, two by two,
the gnats and mosquitoes that feed on you.
Millions of creatures that fly or crawl,
in Texas, Lord, you've put them all !!
But this is home, and here we'll stay,
So thank you Lord, for insect spray.

HOLD IT.............there's more....................

YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN JULY WHEN...

~ The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

~ The trees are whistling for the dogs.

~ The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

~ Hot water now comes out of both taps.

~ You can make sun tea instantly.

~ You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

~ The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.

~ You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

~ You discover you can get sunburned through your car window.

~ You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

~ You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.

~ Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up
lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

~ You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

~ The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add
butter, salt and pepper.

~ Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled
eggs.

~ The cows are giving evaporated milk.

............Ah, what a place to call home.

It is so true about the asphalt, too! YOu can almost see it bubbling sometimes.........also, never wear shorts if your car has leather seats........or carry a towel at all times!

LOL..I liked those to PK. They were all good though.

Thanks CW!..I liked that.

Believe it or not, Ohio gets pretty durn hot. Not as much as it use to, but years ago, it would be awful!

Enjoyed reading this- sounds alot like Fl, especially the two finger driving if you do not have tinted windows LOL

The heat index yesterday according to the news was 105! I went home for lunch and there was someone mowing the grass- for me I do it either very early or later after work.

I hear you on that CW. We were in TX for six days in Aug last summer and everywhere you go down there people are carrying around bottles of water-----HOT bottles of water! Guess you could also carry around an envelope of Cup O Soup for those chilly days when it cools off to 95.

We spent the day at Sea World and the parking lot there had no shade at all, I swear! I think we could've boiled water inside the van, or baked potoes.

It gets pretty bad here too sometimes, but not this summer. So far it's been really mild except for a few hot steamy days here and there.

Ledhead, now you know, visit TX in the winter:) We went to Sea World in June and I was just a little miserable to say the least. All the walkways are made of the "liquid asphalt," which throws the heat back at you. I actually walked along the grass. I sat in those bleachers and wondered why they had all the bushes and small trees planted on each side, acting as a barrier against what breeze we might had gotten. Also wondered why they couldn't hang large fans to circulate the hot air. See I really enjoyed my visit, I just sat and wondered ;)

I would've gladly come in winter if our son had cooperated and waited until fall to enter Air Force basic training. I'm sure we would've enjoyed San Antonio much more in January without salty sweat running in eyes everytime I looked at something. The Riverwalk would've been beautiful if we'd been able to go the Alamo Bowl instead of Lackland AF with very VERY few trees and all that bright white hot cement!!

I WILL say though, that Texans are SO friendly and supportive to the new basic training graduates (AND their families) of the week!! I can't even count the number of times I got that parental lump of pride in my throat everytime someone said, "Congratulations Airman!" It still gets me now just remembering it while writing about it! LOL, I know it takes very little for me to get that parental lump of pride in my throat. What can I say? I'm an easy audience.
