....
So what do you think of Slimfast firing Whoopi Goldberg for the remarks she made last week at the DNC fundraiser? I guess I haven't seen enough of the comments (might change my mind if I see more?), but it seems rather harsh to me.
One report I saw said that Slimfast was "pressured" to release her, which leads me to believe she said harsher things than I've read.
Anyone?

This is what is at tvguide.com
MAKIN' WHOOPI... SAD: You won't see Slim-Fast hawker Whoopi Goldberg in TV commercials for the diet drink anymore. The comic has been fired for dissing Dubya at last week's John Kerry fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Attendees reportedly witnessed Goldberg brandishing a wine bottle and making dirty wordplays on President Bush's surname. (Tee-hee!) Slim-Fast says it has pulled the Whoopster off the air because her comments offended some of its customers. First, NBC axes her Bush-bashin' Whoopi, now this. Clearly, that vast right-wing conspiracy is at work!

I thought this was America where we are able to have and voice our own opinions ... and besides ... SHE'S A COMEDIAN!?! Come on ... a few people were offended by her comments ... well boohoo! What about those of us who are offended by the war that is being forced on us, and killing innocent people? What about those of us who are offended by our Vice President spewing the "F" word on the Senate floor?
I can understand that while Slim-fast has to watch it's bottom line (dollar), they could have simply offered up a statement saying "the comments and opinions of our PAID spokesperson do not reflect those of Slimfast".
Politics is SUCH a hypocritical arena!
I Agree

The republicans and right wingers are so sensitive..yea, sure they are, that is why they are the dirtiest below the belt attackers in politics. They whine and whine when they are losing, and they sure are being outed for the liars and hypocrits they are.
Beekeeper you got that right, about this War belonging to the Bush Cheney war machine. They do not seem to be offended by death and destruction though, but a commedienne making jokeys about Dubya Wubba, they are offended. Cripes !!
I Agree

with SlimFast on this one. I think Whoopi went too far. I also think the Kerry campaign is partially responsible and should apologize. I read where they asked her for an advance copy of her monologue - she sent them a picture of a rear end with a lipstick print on it. Soooo, I think they should have known what was coming. And the "F" word was used in a personal conversation between two men not during a Senate floor speech or as part of the entertainment for a campaign fundraiser. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say everything and anything you want to anywhere.

OMG!
LOLOL.... More right wing conspiracies? Geez... If that is the case, Bush will win in a landslide...
Rag on the company, all you want, but to yell about conspiracy, is pretty darned silly...
What I find amazing, is that Kerry, at that same fund raiser, was bragging about the American "values" of the group there... Wow... Guess my definition of American Values and theirs is a bit different... LOL...
I guess, the people who complained about Omarosa and got her bumped from the Clairol commercial, constituted a racist conspiracy??
Hah... Whoopi's comments constitute free speech because she is an entertainer, and should be fluffed over, but Cheney being overheard saying the F word in a private conversation is not, and should be held against him?
Ah, yes the republicans are dirty campaigners, LOL... Now there is the absolute epitome of the pot and kettle...
;0))
PK remembering a certain man named John Kerry whining about how unfair it was that Bush was collecting more money than he was...
Evidently this is how Kerry plays catch up...

The Kerry campaign can't control what some big mouthed comedian says at a private fund raiser. lol ... and besides ... Slimfast will probably lose just as many or even more consumers NOW than if they had left it alone.
Cheney's blast WAS on the Senate floor, and was NOT a private conversation.
What Whoopi said, may not be appropriate or kind ... but it is/was her opinion and she did have every right to say it. Should she be held acountable, probably. However, Whoopi has never kept her political affiliations or opinions private. If the Democrats should have known that Whoopi could do this, Slimfast should have known this could happen as well.
There are shady politicians on both sides ... it's not a democrat/republican or liberal/conservative thing. Neither side is searching out tye "moral high ground" here!

EXACTLY WHAT I ALWAYS SAY ABOUT THE REPUBLICANS!!!!!!!
Come-on PK, you know NEITHER party is clean and pure...Please don't pull the "holier than thou" stuff - it's beneath you...
At any rate, don't you think our vice-president should hold higher standards than a Hollywood entertainer? ... I do.
Geez, what's next - the president and vice-president getting 'bleeped' during press briefings and The State of the Union Address?
Wow, can't you just hear Bush saying "And that &*#$! Saddam has to go!" And "We're still looking for that M*&#$!@ F*&^!*! Osama bin Laden!!!"...LOL
As far as Whoopie - well, that's the way it goes. Hey, after all, the Milk Board cancelled the Olsen twins "Got Milk?" ad campaign contract...sooo, it's just the companies freaking out about images.

You come on, Jinh, what are you talking about?? Would you please attribute the right post to the right poster!!! Why would you quote that post, and then address me?
Re read MY post, since you evidently did NOT read it the first time... I said Pot and Kettle... How does that make me playing holier than thou??? I was ragging on the "holier than thou" attitude of a previous poster... But that's OK, I see...
Good grief, YOU see Right Wing Conspiracies at every turn, too?? That SHOULD be beneath you..
Sheesh...
;0))
PK
I knew you didn't make the post I quoted, PK...Two different things...I was referring to your entire post....
But, this is interesting to me...
<<What I find amazing, is that Kerry, at that same fund raiser, was bragging about the American "values" of the group there... Wow... Guess my definition of American Values and theirs is a bit different... LOL...>>
I want to know what you consider to be "American Values".
Are people that swear and make jabs 'valueless'? lol...
No seriously, what do you, what does everyone here consider to be "American Values"? I think we all need to define what we mean by that statement...
Jinh
PK...

Well, then, Jinh...
I really do take exception to your post... And I ask again, where is my "holier than thou" attitude? Though, from my point of view, I do see a bit poking out from the edges of all your political posts...
Kerry refered to the gathering where Whoopi "whooped" as being the "heart and soul" of America... Wha????
The Hollywood establishment does not represent many "values" I would choose to emulate... But that's just me...
;0))
PK
PK...You totally side-stepped my question.
Also, I don't support the party that keeps yakking about "American Values". Good grief do you think John Kerry or Hollywood people and Democrats are 'valueless'? That seems to be the picture the Republican Right is trying to paint...I think it's just insane.
Once again, I'd like everyone to give their definition of "American Values"...
Just curious..
Jinh
P.S. I just saw that Dennis Miller has put in his 'tit-for-tat' effort with jabs at the Dems......whatever............

Jinh, do you want the "American values" description of what we WISH were the truth, or what REALLY is? There is a HUGE difference!
From what I see, read, hear ... these politicians (both sides) in question talk about American values, morals, etc., yet they lie, cheat, call each other names, use the Bible as a weapon, demand the Pledge of allegiance be said aloud in every classroom and then deny gay people equal rights (remember ... with liberty and justice for ALL), and the list goes on.
FUNNY stuff!

<<<<<<<<<<Brandishing a sealed wine bottle in one hand, Goldberg used a double entendre to skewer the President over his last name at least a dozen times as she pointed to her nether regions.
She also used Vice President Cheney's first name to make a sexual reference about the Republicans' ticket>>>>>>>>>>
That is from the Daily News--I read a much more detailed version this morning (which was a lot more disgusting) in one of the papers but I can't find it--I will look later and try to post--
And then Kerry proceeded to say that all of the performers of the evening represented the "values of the Heartland of America"---
Good lord--
PK...
07-15-2004, 02:11 PM
And YOU sidestepped mine... Still waiting for the Holier than thou reference to be pointed out...
Why don't you tell me the values you see in the Hollywood Establishment that you embrace... I certainly do not approve of the "excesses" seemingly embraced by the 'stars'...
LOL...<<SPAMSPAMSPAMlso, I don't support the party that keeps yakking about "American Values".>>>
Then, I wonder, Jinh, if you have been following the campaign, cause it seems as if "Kedwards" is now championing "values" as if they have never existed before...
I still have not seen ANYTHING about what Kerry will actually do (speaking of sidestepping!). Maybe you can tell us how he will get us out of Iraq?? How will he expand the already expanding job market?? How will he close the tax loophole through which Edwards has already sheltered almost a million dollars in wages - paying nothing??
Looks to me as if at least one, and probably both) has benefited immensely from the very issues they are railing at the Republicans about...

Hey, come-see, come-saw...
As for my accusation of your "holier than thou" attitude, I reference this: <SPAMSPAMSPAMh, yes the republicans are dirty campaigners, LOL... Now there is the absolute epitome of the pot and kettle...>>
In essence, you are saying you feel 'they'(the Dems.) are worse than the Reps. could ever be when it come to dirty campaigning - that they (your party) is above and beyond critical or dirty campaigning, etc...To which I call B.S. (I watch TV too <wink>) And was stating as much...
Jinh
PK...
07-15-2004, 03:46 PM
Well, then Jinh... I really don't know what to say...
<<In essence, you are saying you feel 'they'(the Dems.) are worse than the Reps. could ever be when it come to dirty campaigning - that they (your party) is above and beyond critical or dirty campaigning, etc...To which I call B.S. (I watch TV too <wink>) And was stating as much...>>
The "epitome of Pot and Kettle", has no such literal connotation.. Perhaps you need to check out your dictionary...
Epitome = a typical example of, or perhaps the highest example of, if I am not mistaken... And the "Pot and Kettle" comparison means neither is worse than the other... right?
So... How in the heck can "a typical/or highest example of" neither is worse than the other" reflect a "holier than thou" attitude, or that I think the Republicans are better than the Democrats when it comes to dirty tricks??
So now, to you, I suggest, you simply jumped to a conclusion based on what you erroneously THOUGHT (WISHED?) I meant??
;0))

Give it up, even you don't understand your own rhetoric.
have the last word, since it is so important to you.
For the record, jinh has more clarity than you.
Oh, piddle, PK -
I know very well the meaning of "epitome" ...Please don't be condescending - I don't deserve it...
As for the "kettle/pot" analogy, well, I've always interpreted it as something like: "after what you've done, you have the gall to say...blah, blah, blah"...
I suppose you could say no better/no worse OR I feel you've done much worse...
Geez, it all gets back to semantics, doesn't it?
Jinh
PK...
07-15-2004, 04:24 PM
It certainly does...
Wow, now, I am condescending, in additon to whatever else you are calling me... You have taken my posts completely out of context, defining them by your terms, and you say I am condescending and you don't deserve it?? But I deserve being called "holier than thou" by your same definition of terms?
The pot calling the kettle black... Now I WILL be condescending, in your eyes... I certainly didn't think you did not "get" that part...
The pot is black... The kettle is black... Perhaps YOU can tell me which of the two is the baddie...
We seem to speak the same words, just not the same language...
PK wondering why something of this nature happens whenever we get into politics...
You win...whatever it is...
I just explained everything to you...can't do no more...
g'night..

<<<I'd like everyone to give their definition of "American Values"... >>>
Well, I'll give you one example....that is a man who is not afraid to stand up for his pro-life beliefs. Kerry, a Catholic man, who says he believes life begins at conception, will not protect those innocent little babies. That, to me, is a primary "Value"....
The more I've read about this Slimfast thing today, the more I think they did the right thing.
Really, a picture of a behind with lips on it? I'm sure there were "guffaws" when they saw that one....
Skeeter
Just to clear the air about the "pot and kettle" this is from Go English.com
The Pot Calling The Kettle Black ( to say something about someone else which is actually true of you yourself ... )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"the pot calling the kettle black"
You are the pot calling the kettle black when you point to another person and accuse that person of doing something that you are guilty of doing yourself. Example: "You are accusing me of being lazy? Ha! That's the pot calling the kettle black!"
"The pot" (for cooking) and "the kettle" (for boiling water) sit on the stove over the fire and become black from the flames. Example: "I'm tired of you always wearing my clothing!" Answer: "Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? You're wearing my pants right now!"
The pot and the kettle are like old friends who have turned black with time; the pot only sees the blackness which is on the kettle; he doesn't see the black on himself. Example: "Here comes the guy who is always late for work." Answer: "Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? You are usually the last person to show up!"
