She doesn't even know what she's selling. I was up this AM getting ready for work and she's schlepping Jessica Simpson's line ... all of a sudden Jessica's husband's name comes up and she says 'Nick LACK-EE.' The gal respresenting Jessica's line had to correct her with the correction prononcication of his name. Boy, she did her homework didn't she. Probably doesn't even know who Jessica Simpson is. Loser.

That wasn't Jacque, that was Laurie Shore. And I agree with you, she wasn't prepared.

Nobody's as stoooopid as Patti Reilly. She was selling silver jewelry one day and pronounced the worl "soldering" exactly as it's spelled--instead of "soddering"--and once, when selling music CD's by classical composers, she pronounced "Dvorak" as De-voo-akk". Look, not everyone is a linguist, but it doesn't take much to run through your cards before the start of the show and ask a writer or a producer how a word is pronounced. She's such an empty-headed, big-butted, fat-fingered person! And I'm perfect...

They are young. QVC better quit hireing the children or I am going to quit keeping it on in the background. I am tired of these goofy kids trying ti be mature experts on about things they which have no idea.

To be fair, I'm sure Mary Beth didn't start off perfect! I KNOW Lisa Mason didn't ... I remember she goofed many MANY times!

I absolutely agree that hosts should do their homework. Part of their job is to review the products that they are selling. I would think a big part of that would be to verify the pronounciation. I do happen to know all of the words in the examples given, even the name of Jessica's husband. Can't say I know how to spell it. Is it Lache? Just a guess.
I believe everyone should express their own opinion, so I will say that I seriously doubt that Laurie Shore, or any of the other hosts, is stupid. Some make more mistakes than others. Talking non-stop as they have to do would wear most of us down. Laurie is not a favorite of mine. Even if she is on mute, the way she waves her arms makes me nuts. I still doubt that she is stupid.

I have noticed too that some of the hosts do not seem to do their homework. Lena is one of them. It is always funny to me when they say things like, "I didn't know that this item was in my show or I would have purchased it." Didn't they even look at what they were selling, or is it some riduculous way to get people to buy something? Jane Treacy used to say that all of the time. But of course, the stuff that she REALLY wanted, she would preorder and report on it in her show.

BARBI,
I LOVED YOUR POST ABOUT FAT-FINGERED PATTI. MAYBE SHE SHOULD BE CLEANING BATHROOMS AT QVC INSTEAD OF SELLING MDSE. SHE IS SOOOOOOOO STOOPID.

I'm convinced that Patti is aware of all of these posts since she has commented on the air about the subjects that are commonly brought up here. Within the last couple of days I heard her comment about her unattractive hands. She has referenced her figure flaws several times recently when I was watching. I don't watch her much, but have never heard her make these comments when I did watch. I have always found her annoying. The squeaky voice and the rapid speaking cause me to mute or go somewhere else. She also is dressed inappropriately very often. Just another reason not to open your wallet when her show is on.
Making silly errors and acting a bit dopey probably has no direct correlation with intelligence level. Some of the most brilliant people on earth don't know what day it is or can't remember where they parked their car if they can remember they have one.
Sorry, I still don't think any of the hosts are stupid. Their jobs are way too complicated for that. They may be wifty, silly, lacking in focus, and a number of other things.

I happened to have QVC on in the background while getting dressed yesterday and heard Patti ask a caller if she enjoyed buying gifts for friends and family. I laughed and thought what did she think the caller was going to say? " No, I hate buying gifts for my friends and family and only like buying for my selfish self". I thought that was really a stupid question.
I don't any of them are stupid and all of them are very articulate, but I will say I do not care for some of them and Laurie Shore is at the top of the list of dislikes.
Jayne Brown is at the top of the list of likes. She's my fav. Glad she's back from vacation.

Who gives a shit if they can't pronounce Nick's last name!!!!!
All this crap about maybe she doesn't know who Jessica Simplton is.
Who cares!!
You people can't even spell Jacque's name right anyway!
So I wouldn't bitch to much about the hosts.
GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey - I spelled it right :) I agree with a few of the above posters, many times the hosts seem to have just laid eyes on the product they're selling. I remember Kathy Levine saying that it took something like 3 hours for every one hour on air, just in prep. I guess the hosts are getting lazy and not doing the prep, just coming in for their shift and doing whatever else it is they do (maybe slummin' with their fans!).

I bet you feel stupid calling the host stupid and you didn't even know who she was! People in glass houses.....

Thanks for your nod of agreement, Whatevr--sometimes I just can't help myself. I'm reading that these hosts have a difficult job, how hard it is to go on non-stop for an hour, etc., etc. Well, no one is forcing anyone to work as a host. If you can't do a job correctly, look for another line of work! If I made as many mistakes on my 9-hour a day job as Patti Reilly makes during one two-hour segment, I'd be picking up unemployment checks.

Did you ever hear of being called in the replace someone at the last minute? I'm sure that sometimes the hosts really DON'T know what they are selling until the item comes up. I know for sure that once in a while these hosts can't have time to prepare because they are called in at the last minute. I ditto the fact that NONE of the hosts are stupid. I couldn't do their job. As far as misprouncing things it's pretty easy to mispronounce things when you have to talk as quickly as these people have to talk and as one the posters so aptly said who the heck cares about Jessica Simpson's husband's name being mispronounced. It's not HIS line of dessert cosmetics!! But unlike some of you I'm willing to give everyone some slack because I am neither perfect nor could I do the show host job. That's my $2.00 worth it may not be a full $2.00 worth but it's more than 2 cents. LOL
By the way did I spell neither right?

You didn't miss anything. I was just pointing out that I can't remember a host speaking as fast as some now do. I think shopping should be a relaxing, enjoyable experience. With some hosts, I get overwhelmed by the rapid-fire presentations.

Oh ok I get it now. Sometimes I'm a little slow!! Hate to admit that. That could lead to all kinds of things. You're right some of the new hosts do speak real fast. I think I'm just jealous because I used to be able to speak real fast but since my M.S. flared up I can't talk that fast anymore.
I agree that everyone makes mistakes and occassional goof ups will occur. However, the hosts are paid to give accurate information. That is part of their job requirements. If the hosts can not give accurate information almost all of the time, then they should be canned. The hosts have to do research on the products. That is also part of the job. Again, if they can not or are not willing to do that, they should find another line of work. Think about it this way, you would want your tax attorney to know all of the latest tax laws. Similarly, you want QVC hosts to know the latest product information.

Good point! All said and done, she should have known how to pronounce his name correctly ... it's just common courtesy!

Nick Lachey is just a former boy band member.
Not to important in my book.
So Laurie didn't pronounce his name right,he wasn't the guest, nor was he selling anything.
As long as she knew what the product was and what it's used for.
Along with the price. I don't care if she called him BOB DICK or HARRY

Mary Beth is certainly not perfect. She makes a lot of mistakes. Her goodie goodie act really gets to me at times.

I was just referring to the fact the some posters think the new hosts speak very quickly. Kathy was always polished and prepared, even if she WAS winging it, which can happen from time to time. Her voice was always very measured. Some of the hosts talk over their guests and some do it to the point of actually raising the pitch of thier voices - only my dog can hear them!
