I want to know how many of you shop at QVC for Christmas presents for men. If you do what do you buy?...(please no pressure washer addicts need apply) I am completely stumped on what to get the men in my family....Even if it's not from the Q any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Great thread ... I'm hoping to learn a lot from this one too! Men are the hardest! I mean, how many shirts, ties or golf clubs can they have?
I ask my hubby to start thinking about what he would like at the beginning of November. That should be plenty of time ... well, it seems it's not! lol ... every year I threaten to buy him another shirt!
I've done the nice watch thing, he's not a jewelry fan, he already has all the BBQ stuff, golf stuff, AAAAAH it's so frustrating!
Maybe we should just take a nice cruise or vacation! Hmmmm ... just thinking aloud ...

I find that along with men, relatives you don't see very often (in my case, bros and sisters)are hard as well. I tend to send alot of gift certificates (they get what they want, and no shipping $). I'm also a big fan of the magazine subscription (Golf Digest and Men's Health are winners). People tell me they remember my gift 12x per year and get lots of info. I try to tailor my gift certs to the person as well (my sister loves to cook, so I get her a Williams Sonoma).

I don't find much at QVC for the men on my list. I did buy binoculars last year, and have purchased some tools and gadgets in the past. It is generally not good shopping for men unless the men like household gadgets. Then there are some things to get. I got my son one of the coffee makers where you make the coffee right in the thermal mug you would be drinking out of on the way to work. That wasn't bad.
I send a number of the Valerie wreaths. They are always well received and that is a unisex gift.

Someone posted a while back that they have given Lee Sands eelskin wallets to the men in their life, and they were well-received.

The ones in my family like those unusual tools they haven't got, and things to put 'em in. The eelskin wallets always seem to be a hit. Last year I got the men at the office those little credit card size swiss army knife thingys, and they loved them.

Thanks for all the great suggestions....I love the christmas season and I usually try to get most of my shopping done by the beginning of December for the adults. I hold out for the grandkids takes them a little while to decide what they want. When I started this thread I really got to thinking. I think this year I may give the married couples a combined gift..gift certificate to a nice resturant..two movie tickests and the promise to babysit. This may work out and be cheaper in the long run. What'ca think?

And when I saw this thread I went AAAAARRGGGHH..Then I read it...When I had men in my life to buy for I always had problems..so this was a really good thread!!! But I really don't want to think about X-Mas yet! Although..I have to admit...I have my shopping done before Thanksgiving..people just get to rude in the stores after that!

Sirgal ... quick question: you said you did the coffee maker ... was it the cooks essentials one? I think I've read here on the boards that it was horrible by many people. I'm guessing it worked great for you!?!
I like the movie tickets idea shopfan! I might use that for girlfriends and family friends!!!
Robin, I also like the gift certificate idea, maybe even to restaurants. I got burned many years ago by this one, I bought a friend and her hubby a gift card to Home Depot, as they just bought a new home. She was appreciative, but told me she thought it was a VERY impersonal gift. She held it against me for a long time. Needless to say, we aren't that close anymore ... I thought I was doing a good thing! :-(
I'm in a weird situation ... the only men I have to buy for are my hubby and my father. I'm an only child, as is my hubby, AND his father has already passed. So I'm stuck with buying the two most difficult men in the world gifts ... two men that already have EVERYTHING!
Qvcqueen - you say electronics. Both my men already have digital cameras, camcorders, video games, computers, etc. However, they are all at least 2 years old. Do you know if technology has changed so much that it might be a good idea to buy them newer ones?
robinb,
that's what I do, too; gift cards and magazine subscriptions.

Technology has really improvd/

beekeeper - I can't think of anything more offensive than someone who chastises you for a gift. Jeez! If I'd just purchased a new home, a H Depot Gift Cert would have been VERY appreciated. The reason I give the certificates and subscriptions is that, in the past, my family has really given me alot of grief over gifts I've picked out for them (one year I gave savings bonds to my (at the time) high school sisters and boy did I get it!) My family tends to get a little odd about gifts, so I just send the certs and they can pick what they want. It's self-preservation!
The restaurant $ and movie tickets sound great. One year I received a $50 travelers check and a Zagat's guide to my new city of Seattle. That rocked. We even got to pick the restaurant!
I'm hoping to get it done (shopping) and over with ASAP. Want to enjoy the season instead of racing around all crazy in December.

I've found that a nice gift for a couple (especially newlyweds) is one of those boxed sets of blown glass ornaments. Gives them a begining for creating family traditions. I have given several as wedding gifts, too, and they were big hits.

My husband loves gift certificates. And he loves the Civil War.
So what I've done for this Christmas is to make reservations at a really nice hotel in Gettysburg for the July 4th week, a gift certificate to Greystone's [the book store there] and an American Express Gift Cheque which can be used anywhere - stores, hotels, restaurants, etc. It's totally non-specific and can be used same as cash - even at a Home Depot!
The only thing left for me to do [too early to make a res] is to book some of those tours where people in boots and geeky hats go stomping through tall grass with ticks in July and listen to a park ranger talk about dead people. And the real gift is that I'll go with him.
I know how frustrating it can get every year - electronics, tools, tools, electronics - so I've begun to try anyway to think outside of the box and do something different.

Precsissy! I used to DATE a man who did Civil War reinacting...I had a hoop skirt, pantiloons, the whole nine yards...It was a sight to behold!! LOL LOL But that sounds like a GREAT gift..you are a good wife!

Believe me - you were a MUCH better girlfriend than I am a wife. No hoop skirts, etc. for me - I wouldn't fit in a battlefield - they would have to shoot through my skirts. Maybe they could have hidden under my skirt!
Anyway, that clothing is made of wool. My hoops are off to you!
