OK...Arnold was great!!!

My two favorite quotes of the evening:

"Terminate the Terrorists"

and

"We don't need girlyman economics!"

...great, great, great.....Laura is doing equally as well!

I have photos of my friend (a teacher at my daughters' school) who met President Bush on Saturday as he was travelling through the area. He gave her a hug!!! She said she thanked him for his morality, and that was when he gave her the hug. He is one amazing man.....

Okay as I have mentioned I know very little about American politics. I did watch this evening. First convention I have ever watched. Anyway I thought it was great, I totally enjoyed it and thought it was hysterical when Arnold said about being a republican was no easy task with Maria's family. I think Laura Bush is genuine and classy. One question which may seem dumb but I am curious. How come President Bush wasn't there? Is that usual?
thanks

Hi, PK

A month? I'd give the "lack of" a whole 2 weeks! Or, until the General Assembly at the UN. "Lack of's" only last while we have visitors.

Hi, Dani

The first 3 days of any convention is leading up to the last day when the candidates are formally nominated. They make their grand entrance on the last day, Thursday, to accept the Party nomination.

Well, I enjoyed it too.....not so sure about the twins and their comedy routine...the jokes were pretty lame, if you ask me. (the SATC joke...yikes) I might have preferred a real "hamster story" to the puns this time, but they did get in a hamster joke. Oh well, they were cute and seem like nice young women.

Thoroughly enjoyed Laura and Arnold. Looking forward to the keynote speaker Sen. Zen Miller(?)forgive me if I messed up his name, going by memory...which isn't always a good thing for me.....hope that speech is shown on primetime tv. Have to check the schedule of events.

Ahhh...Zell Miller...

Please tell me what the difference is between what Zell Miller's doing now, and what John Kerry did in 1971...

Both changed their minds about their causes and beliefs,no?

Seems hypocritical to bash Kerry when he came home and said, basically, "this war sucks and this is why.", and Miller, now, saying "this party sucks and this is why."...

Matt Lauer asked Zell why he just doesn't switch parties officially, and he answered that he has no intention of changing...he thinks there should be room in the Democratic party for moderates and conservatives....he feels that the party is too liberal, but that doesn't mean he has to follow along like sheep to remain a member.

Or does it?

As for changing minds about beliefs, sounds like Zell was always somewhat moderate..don't know for sure though......Savhlaney?.......

I wouldn't even get into comparisons, if Kerry was my model for example.

Kerry came home and bashed the Nixon administration...He bashed the WAR...NOT the country et al.

What does it take to get it through to you that there is a difference?

Besides, you didn't answer my question; whether it be "party" or "administration" - Zel Miller was BASHING George Sr. twelve years ago...Now, well, you see.

I was just asking what's the difference...

As someone who lost a brother-in-law on the USS Forrestal during the Vietnam war and whose husband was shipped over for an additional six months because of this war, I can tell you what our family's feelings are with regard to Kerry. We feel he was a hero for the four months he spent in Vietnam. No matter what the swift boat vets say, we believe Kerry's life had to be in jeopardy while he was in that hellhole. Where we believe he is an S.O.B. and certainly not deserving to be commander-in-chief is what he did when he returned. His "testimony" where he turned against fellow servicemen has no defense. He hurt our POW's, he hurt our MIA/POW families and he hurt his fellow servicemen. If you look at his Senate voting record, it is obvious he has not voted for a "strong" America. I would rather we be fighting in Iraq than fighting in the streets of America. If we leave Iraq with our tail between our legs, it is only a matter of time IMO before they come here. I do not believe we can show weakness (which is how I perceive Kerry).

The difference for many in being against Bush and then rethinking that position was 9-11...a major catastrophic attack the likes of which had never been seen on our soil in our lifetimes.

He is the right man for the number one office, and the realities of the world we live in now.

How anyone can stick to the Democratic party line after 9-11 is beyond me.??...maybe the social issues, and perhaps the environmental issues can be put up to good arguments, sure... but the foriegn policy of the Democrats? Yikes.

To me that would be living in denial...... that everything is going to be A-ok, if we just sit back and make nice with the rest of the world.

I'm sorry Jinh...

If you can't already see the difference you questioned, no amount of trying to explain it will help... LOL, if "Give em hell" Zell's speech last night didn't clarify that issue, nothing will...

Since you have it "seared into your brain" that what Kerry did was fine and good and patriotic when he returned from his 4 months, it's obvious nothing will change your romanticized view of the antiwar movement...

Oh, and if I were a Republican Polititian, I would be working to moderate their position on several issues... I don't agree blindly with everything the party stands for, but I agree with much more than I do with what the Democratic party stands for.. And for me, Kerry has really polarized those issues this election... Just as he is doing with the country....

<<<Isn't that the same as saying how can anyone not be Catholic after the crucifixion? I guess all non-Catholics will roast in Hell.>>>

That is a point taken E.T., but I must counter with the obvious...we did not witness the crucifixtion....many are of different faiths, or are agnostic...we can only go by what we "choose" to believe from past writings and teachings....... otoh....we all saw what happened on 9-11 with our own eyes........I would dare to say that there is no doubt with anyone in the world that they are out there and we are "the great satan", their target for destruction.....they told us so themselves, and are willing to die to prove it.

Getting back to the crucifixtion...had I lived in those times, and was present to see the crucifixtion of our lord, and his ascension to the heavens......I think that would have been enough for me.

So basically, if two giant skyscapers falling to earth, thousands running from the Pentagon buildings...hundreds dying in fiery suicide plane crashes weren't enough to convince people that we are in iminent danger from these fanatics (who are scattered around the world ).....well.....I don't know what to say to convince them.

< Getting back to the crucifixtion...had I lived in those times, and was present to see the crucifixtion of our lord, and his ascension to the heavens......I think that would have been enough for me.>

Well, in that case, I guess there is no God because we didn't live in those times, we can't see Him and will never see Him in our lifetime on earth. Therefore, everyone should stop praying to ask for favors from Him for our ill friends and family. After all, that would be hypocritical.

I think that's all I care to say on the subject of God. But no matter what party you are registered for, it doesn't really matter. What matters is who you vote for and as far as I know, a dem can vote rep and vice versa. My vote goes for the person who I feel will do the best job no matter what party he's affiliated with. And right now it's tough to pick the lesser of two evils.

I certainly have the freedom of speech to post that I think E.T.'s opinion sucks and that my President is not evil (neither is Kerry IMO). Evil is the terrorists NOT those trying to protect us. Evil is people like the Chechen rebels who have killed innocents. Evil are the murderers involved in the Oklahoma bombing. It sure looks like a few people have gone overboard with the terminology "lesser of two evils". This terminology has been used many times over, not just in an election. Surely you're not that naive not to have heard those words before or said them in reference to choices of any kind. It's been said by many people, many times, and here's a reference for you to look at:

Hi Scoops,

I don't understand these people, but then I don't understand how someone like M Moore can make a "so called
documentary" and so many people pay to see it. M Moore becomes a rich man and the people come out believing every word heard, instead of questioning the lies and doing research of their own.

They join the crowd with their signs because they might get their picture on TV. I'm thankful that very few of them probably take the time to vote. That is the same way I feel about the polls that our "honest" TV reporters keep showing. The majority of the people they poll probably will not make it to vote on election day. If the protesters cared about our country so many of them would not be desecrating the Flag. They get all their facts from TV (I wonder how these reporters sleep at night). The thing I resent most I think is the fact the all the honest TV reporters and commetators keep referring to the economy in our country. What is wrong with it? The unemployment figure is low. If you listen to these people you would believe we are in a depression.

Frankly I think John Kerry has mental problems (and no I am not joking). I mean the things that come out of his mouth.
Of course, those of us who know how government works realize that he will not be able to do any of this crap he is promoting and our country will just be hanging in limbo.

My biggest fear is another attack on our country, if he should be elected.

One more thing and I will be quiet. He is going to start criticizing all the men and women who join the National Guard, he ran around Vietnam for three months (collectin the largest number of medals in the shortest period of time of any member of the military in all of the wars.) President Bush spent his first year in the NG learning to fly a fighter jet, a hugh number of our fighting men in Iraq are members of the National Guard. It is the men and woman of the NG who come to the aid of all the natural disasters that have been playing havoc with our country in the last few years. I am sure the people of Florida are glad they are there at the moment, and now Kerry is going to tell them they are wortless cowards.

GOD BLESS all of Florida's citizens. Frances is predicted to move across the State the same as Charley did, hitting the Orlando area again.

Ok, so I've rambled. The rain has stopped need to go take a walk.

Shellseeker and Portia why are you making such a big deal out of ET saying she'll just vote for the "lesser of the two evils"? That saying is probably 'older than them thar hills'. When I saw Shel's reply the first time, I thought she was just pretending not to know what ET meant to pull her chain a little. When you both chimed in, I thought I would exercise my right to my opinion.

What ET meant, at least the way I interpreted it, was that she'll just try to vote for the one she thinks will do the least damage to the country. Meaning I think, that she doesn't think that much of either of the candidates. So she doesn't think either of them are very good. I've voted that way in most of the elections since I've been old enough to vote.

Both parties have beliefs and policies that I strongly agree with, and strongly disagree with, and some I have different feelings for different situations. I'm not a straight party voter.

This time I'm voting for whom I think will be the most supportive of our military, since my youngest son joined the Air Force a year ago, and I have a friend whose son is on his way to the Sandbox right now leaving his wife, little girl and a baby on the way behind. He won't even see his new baby until he's/she's nine months old.

The question of how M. Moore could make such a film has been brought up a few times. To borrow an overused phrase from some posters "because he could". Again, it goes back to freedom of speech. Many people are like lemmings and all they need is for the head lemming to run into the ocean and the rest will follow. I have not seen the film nor do I care to see it as I can form my own opinions. Lies have been told on both sides of the political coin and it's up to the voters to determine which candidate they choose to believe.

As far as the state of the economy, how can anyone ask what's wrong with it? The news is not good and maybe it just hasn't gotten around to everyone. I just read an article today entitled "Nation simply can't afford four more years of Bush". I will pick out a few statements that indicate what is wrong with the economy.

"The economy that President Bush claimed would be kickstarted by his $1.7 trillion tax cut giveaway to the rich today has 1.1 million fewer jobs than the day he took office. That means Bush will join Herbert Hoover as only the second president to see the nation suffer a net job loss on his watch. A record 1.6 million Americans will file for bankruptcy in 2004, 90 percent from the middle class. Median family income after adjusting for inflation has dropped by nearly $1,500 since 2000, placing the American Dream further out of reach for many families. In the last two years of the Clinton administration, 2.3 million people gained health SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM. Since Bush took office, 3.8 million have lost it. At the same time, families are being hard hit by rising costs in health SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM premiums, energy prices, and college tuition. Local taxes and fees are also escalating well above the rate of inflation to make up for underfunded federal mandates and state budgets ravaged by the Bush recession. President Bush pushed through a Medicare plan that is healthy only for the big pharmaceutical and health care companies that will reap windfalls from it. Seniors, on the other hand, are getting hit with higher SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM drug and health care costs. In 2002, the federal government posted its first budget deficit since 1997. Now, the deficit is expected to exceed $400 billion every year for the next 10 years. One of the culprits is the Bush tax cut. And where is a big chunk of that money going? From 2001 to 2010, the lowest fifth of American taxpayers will received an average tax cut of $744. The top 1 percent will get $342,472."

If you have not been affected, then consider yourself very lucky. Maybe that's why everyone cannot see what has happened to the economy. I myself have not been affected but have seen others that have and it's not a pretty picture. I have a cousin in his early 50s that lost his job of over 25 years. He put in over 65 applications and his unemployment ran out but luckily as soon as it ran out, he found a delivery job. Not a good paying one but one that will let him hang onto his house.

Everyone needs to put on their thinking caps and pick through the landmines of lies to determine which candidate will restore this country to a level where people can breathe freely and not have to worry about where their next paycheck is coming from or even if there will be a next paycheck.

Excellent post ET- I did not see anything wrong with you saying the lesser of two evils- I do not like either candidate, so it will be a hard decision for me. I probably would not have used the word evil, but it does get the point across of what you are trying to convey.

Excellent on what you said about the economy- how can anyone think it is good? I have been affected- wont go into those details but I am thankful that I am working. There are many who are unemployed, my brother in law's family live in Ohio and many of his family are unemployed. But I am not sure if any President can determine the outcome of the economy- nothing can stay up forever.

Hope Pres. Clinton has an easy time w/surgery and recovers quickly. Been there, done that...scary time for family. Really loved the GNC from start to finish. Does anyone respect that fact that GWB is the President? Heard some reporters refer to him as Bush, thought that was very disrespectful. (Would have thought that no matter who was President). Regarding Kerry's comeback speech in the middle of the night... it sounded like a lot of whining to me. Says he will not be thought of as "unfit" because Cheney and Bush shouldn't talk having not been overseas. GET OVER IT, Kerry. You don't want your record scrutinized, yet you keep living on your service record. We'd need more than that. Regarding Kerry's famous anti-war speech in 71...he had no regard for the prisoners of war or any other of his comrades who he lumped into "those who committed daily atrocities". What was he thinking, he certainly didn't have their welfare in mind when he resorted again to self-SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM. Someone in an earlier post said they thought Kerry had a mental problem...look in any psych book, there's a chapter that can describe much of what he does and says. I truly think that the Democratic Party had no one worth running and is now stuck with someone who constantly leaves a bad taste anytime he opens his mouth. If he really has good ideas and good plans, he sure doesn't come across as a confident person. And whatever happened to Miss "Shove-It"? I haven't seen or heard of her in weeks. Nice support there. Maybe the Kerry/Edward ticket is worthy, but I thought I've listened carefully, and I don't hear a thing. For those that are experiencing tough times in the workplace, things will get better. All I know is because of the low interest rates, both of my children were able to buy houses last year....both are gainfully employed, and both are starting families. We appreciate our good fortune there. We are about to retire and are most interested in Medical SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM, Social Security etal, as are most people in our age group. President Clinton promised during his campaign to redo the Health SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM for all, and did nothing. Kerry has his big promises. Bush has now made his known. In looking at the big picture, my head and heart will vote for Bush (again) and trust that some of these issues will be resolved.

Danielle -- I've never had a problem with you and I resent you saying I have a chip on my shoulder. I have had ONE (1) board fight since I've started posting here and that was with E.T. She unfairly attacked me with her sarcastic "wit" and I called her on it. She also did not have the class to apologize and she was clearly wrong (her Brooklyn bridge comment) since she attacked me first. I DON'T like her (if you are one of her friends, fine; but I don't like her). I have seen you involved in MANY MANY MANY board fights so if anyone has a chip on their shoulder or needs reminding on "good board etiquette", it isn't me. I have purposefully stayed out of the fights between the "good guys" and the "bad guys" since whatever happened occurred before my time and I choose not to choose sides. That being said, when I see E.T. (whom I perceive to be a sarcastic dimwit) say something I disagree with, I WILL post my disagreement -- don't YOU do that with the people you dislike? And, further, if others see things differently that's okay with me. I am only posting MY opinion - right or "wrong" it is MY opinion...

Geez...

No time to post much re: All of the above - LOL...

Just wanted to let you know that if you want to send your well-wishes to Bill Clinton, you can do it by e-mailing Joe@msnbc.com...He said he would pass the messages on to Bill...

Well Portia you claim to know of all these fights I got into, but you also are new are you not? It makes no difference if I am friends with ET or not, what you said to her was rude. Telling her to play with herself.

Seeing as you are "new" why don't you go back and do some reading. I get into arguments and will probably continue to do so when ignorant people make ignorant comments about people's weight, children families etc... I tried posting to you on a nice level a few days ago, but you choose to ignore that one.

I do not like your comment and that is MY opinion. Take it or leave it. You have been after ET since day one. In my OPINION someone who calls another a dimwit and tells her to go play with herself does not have any board etiquette themselves. I know you don't like to let things go but I am not going to get into a posting war with you. Your comments were rude and uncalled for in my OPINION.

What dirty filthy minds you have. You heard of the phrase "lesser of two evils" but have never heard the phrase "go play with yourself". It doesn't have to mean to play with your private parts -- geeze, I've said it to my kids and grandkids. It means -- amuse yourself -- I'm not playing with you. You guys are unreal especially when you condescendingly pretend to be so above it all. You all (Danielle and the back-patters) have posted such garbage and you call someone out on using the term "go play with yourself" -- what frigging hypocrites you are.

Further, why would I need an "excuse" for anything I post here. I am not the pupil and you the teacher......

Thrilled with the convention (and boost from it) and proud to support this candidate. :)

We are off to our Vol season opener. I am going on crutches, but nothing can stop us.

Monica, I heard they canceled the Gators and FSU right? Hope you are doing okay. I am so worried about my good friend in Tampa.

The flooding is what apparently the worst of it. yuck

Be safe!!

I know I sure wouldn't want compliments from the dregs of society. Isn't Portia lucky to have such wonderful, educated people rooting for her? Perhaps we need to send out some dictionaries for Christmas. Oh wait, you at least have to know the first few letters of a word before you can look it up......dictionaries are out of the question now.

Well..not that anyone asked but I feel that "i feel" misspelled on purpose just to throw us off.

Whatever floats it's boat,I guess.

such a warm welcoming committee you have here. People pick on people who spell poorly. If you don't love Kelly, you are garbage. They post posters names on a public board. They stick up for people in their clique no matter what.

Hey,<oh yes>, you must not have been around here very long, if you think the only ones that attack in the manner above are the "Kelly lovers"...

I'm on the "Kelly lover" side and have had everything you stated above (and more) done to me...so kiddo, it works both ways...

Hell, I was attacked on my VERY FIRST post on the old Blue Board three years ago, which was simply "I miss Kelly". So don't try and play the "we the poor victims" card with me...

It looks like someone else shares my opinion of the whole race and on top of that he referenced the choices the same way I did.

From Oct. issue of Reader's Digest by someone in Ed Dorado Hills, CA.

"I just read your interviews with President Bush and Senator Kerry ("Uniting America: Which Man Can Do It?") Here we go again with political doubletalk and meaningless promises. Bush says he'll accomplish in his second term what he's been unable to accomplish in his first. Kerry points out the President's failures without suggesting any alternatives.

I consider myself a nonpartisan moderate. Like so many other Americans, I want a President who is not a Republican or a Democrat, liberal or conservative, but rather an American. A strong, respected President who has a detailed plan and isn't afraid to share it.

Unfortunately, we won't have that choice this November. Once again, we'll have to vote for the lesser of two evils, and hope that come 2008 a true leader will step forward."

hmmmmmmm
09-14-2004, 04:28 PM
I do believe that should be El Dorado Hills, CA and WHY pray tell should we give a crap about this person who "happened" to use the same words you did? Do you require "validation" of your opinion?

E.T.
09-14-2004, 05:03 PM
hmmmmm, when I need your validation, I'll rattle your cage and let you know. And yes, it should have read El not Ed, big fricken deal, my finger slipped. Now go back to your cave like a good little bat.
