LOL, Jinh...

But Michael Moore's travesty is AOK??

Ox being gored, sauce for the Goose, etc... Why might I think I would find it every bit as powerful as you think F9/11 is??

Hey, I've copied the RipaRocks vids for you, but I need your addy again... Or do you want to wait until after the election??

Sinclair owns about 28 stations with assorted network affiliations, and plans to preempt programing to show a documentary about Kerry's antiwar actions upon returning from his four month tour - especially his appearance before congress...

Funny, if Kerry is the war hero he claims, and his actions upon returning are as commendable as has been reported by his supporters, it seems that a documentary reflecting those same actions would be welcomed by those same supporters...

Perhaps it's the fact that the documentary was not made with Michael Moore's spin that is causing this kerfuffle?

DK, your CD is ready to mail... Hope to get it in to town in the next couple of days... Gotta say I am still torn between "I Feel Like a Woman", and "Kiss That Frog"...

Sorry, I guess I "lied"... Sinclair owns 62 stations...

Dems vs. Free Speech
The Democratic National Committee is attempting to use the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law to suppress a documentary critical of John Kerry. Sinclair Broadcasting, which owns 62 TV stations nationwide, plans next week to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," which features interviews with former prisoners of war who feel betrayed by Kerry's antiwar activism. The Washington Post reports:

Sinclair's decision . . . is drawing political fire--not least from the Democratic National Committee, which plans to file a federal complaint today accusing the company of election-law violations. "Sinclair's owners aren't interested in news, they're interested in pro-Bush propaganda," said DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe, whose complaint will accuse the firm of making an in-kind contribution to the Bush campaign.

If this is an in-kind contribution, what is "Fahrenheit 9/11"? How about Bruce Springsteen's pro-Kerry concerts, or for that matter newspaper editorials endorsing one candidate or another?

All these things of course are constitutionally protected free speech, as is "Stolen Honor." McAuliffe's complaint is frivolous, though it does underscore the absurdity of campaign finance laws that attempt to silence some political speech while carving out an exception for the media.

As well, it underscores the authoritarian nature of the political left when it comes to political speech. Liberals are quick to cry "censorship" when others merely criticize far-left or anti-American speech (remember the Dixie Chicks?), but they are eager to use the force of government to silence those with whom they disagree.>>>

PK -

I didn't even read your long diatribe...

I will say only this: There is a BIG difference between charging money to see a film and forcing this anti-Kerry shit down peoples throats...

BTW the FCC just announced that this is a gross abuse of public trust by the media...

I can see on principle Jinh why you would say to boycott....but otoh......you felt it important for everyone to pay to see F-9-11, and seemed to suggest in your posts that by refusing to see it, that some weren't being very openminded.

If a similar thing were to happen with your preferred "documentary",(rather than it being shown on pay-per-view) would you feel the same?

.......and, does it make the importance of seeing both sides any less, by airing it for free? You can always choose to watch another channel...just the same as not buying the other on PPV.

Hahah...

Diatribe... Anti-Kerry shit...

Funny stuff, Jinh...

How would you know it was a diatribe if you didn't read it? And you know without seeing the documentary that it's anti-Kerry "shit"... Yet you adore anti-Bush "shit"...

But then why would you be any more likely to read it than for me to see F9/11, which you "hautilly" chastized me for, and insinuated you were the better person for having seen it?

You forget how much of F9/11 was forced down our throats by the oh so "fair" media. Day after day in the papers and on TV. Couldn't even change the channels fast enough...

Perhaps you should thank Sir Michael for the creation of this documentary and Sinclair's desire to air it... I only hope I have access to one of the sinclair stations...

Thanks for the reminder, Scoops... If you recall, there were free screenings of F9/11. That got lots of free press, too... And I recall there was a lot of free speech bitching and moaning about the few theaters that refused to screen the anti-Bush "shit"...

OH... Short version of the "long diatribe".... Evidently the Dems can dish it out, but can't take it...

Hahah... Check out the political affiliation of said FCC official...

PK, I was in a 'huff' and a rush...Diatribe was the wrong word to use...I should have just said 'posts'...Sorry.

At any rate, both you and Scoops make some fair points, HOWEVER, I still think it's fundamentally wrong to 'force' these affiliates to air this under the guise of a "news program". 99 percent of the people who viewed Farenheit 9/11 had to pay...Also, if Disney hadn't decided NOT to release it in the first place, it never would have created the stir it did in the media - in fact, M.M. THANKED the conservatives for all the free publicity - lol.

Nope, I still thinks this one stinks to high-heaven - but that's life - a lot of things stink. (Hey, that's probably as philosophical as I'll get today!)lol

Have a good one,

Jinh

Sinclair? My uncle is Sinclair! You want to boycott him? ;)

I have an idea, why don't all of the Republicans rent and watch 9/11 and all of the democrats tune into what Sinclair is saying. Then come back and discuss it. You can also go to the hoaxbusters site to see what percentage of what you see and hear is a hoax.

As an independant I don't have problems hearing each side but I've found that many Democrats cannot bring themselves to hear anything anti-Kerry and many Republicans cannot bring themselves to hear anything anti-Bush.

I don't care what anyone says about Kerry. They can express their feelings anyway they want. I too enjoy hearing opinions but I have made up my mind from the beginning.

Enjoy your day all.....it is cloudy and rainy but a great day.

Isn't the big saying around here, "If you don't like it, don't watch?" lol. I say "Go Sinclair! And go veterans!" They have EVERY right to speak up and I am glad someone has given them the forum. For the record, Sinclair is trying to get Kerry to come on and participate in the conversation but he refuses. Hey, he brought it up!

PK...

I'm curious to see why the people so fervently against Sinclair giving the veteran's a platform to speak, are not just as fervently against the Sundance Channel/Robert Redford airing anti-Bush specials and plan to air anti-Bush movies all evening before the election? Or maybe they are and didn't post about it. Just wondering. :)

PK...
10-13-2004, 03:21 PM
Hmmm... Thanks for that information, and...

Good point Sillyou!

I am sorry to say, or sad to say, I no longer watch Sundance, simply because the ratings posted for the movies shown on that channel are out of left field... Maybe Robert rates them himself?

But, in any event, it's nice to know the Dems will have a channel to watch while the Sinclair stations are running with the anti-Kerry Shit...

;0))
