Is it just me, or has anyone else felt that Tony's show seems to be getting the lion's share of good guests?

It really is a conflict, I suppose, trying to give Tony a boost, but I wish so often that Regis & Kelly were interviewing some of these folks instead. For instance, Alan Alda, this morning - Reege does a great job with him...

When Wayne Brady's show followed Live!, there wasn't this problem with scheduling...At any rate, it's a little frustrating to me...

They used to have the same problem when Rosie was live in NY directly following R&K.

...it's V..

Tony's show is getting better with each passing day. Well, I'm exaggerating cause I don't watch it everyday but, it is getting better. Today's show was so much fun...I watched it from beginning to end....and I agree, he's snagging some really good guests. He's got a nice mix going.

But I'm partial to Tony....<wink>

I'm liking Tony better too...I see him getting a little more relaxed and comfortable. At first he acted so nervous that he made me nervous.lol

Still, there are times when I wish Regis were interviewing a certain person - he's just so good at it - especially with people he knows well...

Live is many times "stuck" promoting a guest from a movie being put out by Buena Vista/Miramax/Disney/........ Tony was talking the other day about how he is constantly calling his friends up, "begging" them to come on his show.......

Wasn't Wayne Brady based in LA........that wouldn't be an issue re: competing with Live for guests.

Hi v :)

Yes L, I'm pretty sure Wayne's show was in LA. Whatever happened to him....lol.

I had the same feeling for Tony when he started his show as I do when Regis is singing..........very nervous until they're done. lol But, Tony is much better and Reege......well, Reege is Reege.

Hi V..& Lisaaaaac

Yes, Wayne Brady's show was out of LA - so it was never a problem. It seems awkward having Tony's show right down the block from Live!...

Wonder how they decide who is getting whom...It seems that Live! would be the preference for most guests...I'm curious to know how they are deciding scheduling - certainly B.V. has had a say in how they want it to go...

Poor Wayne - never could get those ratings up - I guess Emmys don't mean everything <wink>

Hi all...

I seldom watch Tony, but I was quite surprised that Barbara Walters was on his show before her special last week... That has been Regis' bailiwick in years past...

Since Live! is a proven show, doncha think they are probably trying to give Tony a leg up his freshman year? I wonder if they are in head to head competition anywhere in the country?

;0))

Hi PK -

I don't know if they are head-to-head anywhere...

I noticed Barbara say that they (The View folks) were rooting for him because he is their lead-in (at least in NY)...

Yes, I think that they are trying to give Tony a 'leg-up' but how long will that last, I wonder? Will it eventually come down to a 'lottery' type thing between the two shows (if TD does survive)?

Hmmm...

LOL...

I just remembered this...

I happened to catch FoxNews interviewing Tony about his show a while back, and the guy wondered that since Regis was nearing retirement, if the "plan" was for Tony to join Kelly on Live...

LOL... He said "I hope not", and you could almost see him shudder... He back peddaled explaining that he wanted to be on his own, and he hoped that his show was not simply a prelude to replacing Regis... I got a chuckle out of it, in any event... (Fox seems to adore Kelly, btw...)

And I have a feeling that Kelly might react the same way... I don't see them as a permanent fit AT ALL.... I don't think Tony is one to share the spotlight - if it can be avoided...

Yeah, that NYC ABC block is darned strong, IMO...

I only watch Live anymore, though, and then my soaps... I have even lost interest in Ellen... Don't know why, for sure, just have..

<<LOL... He said "I hope not", and you could almost see him shudder...>>

I don't think he and Kelly have a 'great' relationship...Look how long it took him to get Kelly on - then she was late...hmmmm

Also, he practically devoted his whole show to KLG yesterday...

Spose she wouldn't leave? PaDumpBump...

Maybe they have plans for something... They are a good match agewise...

Below are the most recent MediaWeek ratings I could find... I hope the Tony guest bonanza isn't the cause of Live's ratings dip... But it's certainly possible... Of course it could also be syndicated time shifts pitting them against stiffer competition in parts of the country...

Wasn't Jane Pauley cancled - or they are going to buy out her 2nd year contract or something? And she has higher ratings than Tony...

Looks as if those who said dumping Dorothy and Jillian was a big mistake for GDL, were right on... They have taken a hit this season...

Oprah and Ellen have certainly reaped benefits from something this year... Though a 27% increase for Ellen is not that much viewer wise... Maybe Ellen will surpass Jerry Springer this year, and send him into retirement - or politics... LOL...

Oprah's increase is pretty darned large... Is she giving away stuff every week?

<<<<-Talk Show Syndication Scorecard:
Based on season to-date national household ratings through Nov. 21, 2004, King World's Oprah (7.8) remains on the rise, with a healthy 16 percent increase year-to-year. Second is King World's Dr. Phil (5.2, - 4 percent), followed by Buena Vista's Live! With Regis & Kelly (3.4, - 6), NBC Universal's Maury (2.9, - 6) and Paramount's Montel (2.3, - 4). Sixth, and sinking, is NBC Universal's Jerry Springer (2.1, -22), followed by Warner Bros.' growing The Ellen DeGeneres Show (1.9, +27), NBC Universal's The Jane Pauley Show (1.5), Buena Vista's The Tony Danza Show (1.3), NBC's Universal's Starting Over (1.1, +22), and its already axed Home Delivery (1.0). Ranking below a 1.0 rating is Twentieth Television's Good Day Live (0.8, -20), Sony Pictures Television's Pat Croce: Moving In and Warner Bros.' The Larry Elder Show (0.8 each), and Life and Style from Sony with a 0.5. That's plenty of talk!>>>

I still have not warmed up to Tony fully yet.....but I do agree HE has gotten better. The show itself is just ok. Not too sure I like the interaction with "Vetrini".....she is cute, but they are dorky together. Have you checked out his audience? LOL ...I am not saying anything yet... check it out and tell me what you all think.

I absolutely love Ellen.......I watch her show with a smile plastered on my face...sometimes my face hurts from grinning and laughing!
