Anybody do scrapbooking?

I'm thinking of starting a Kylah scrapbook, or maybe a grandkids scrapbook and for her and future grandkids.

So, how do you get started? I guess I should go look at Michael's and maybe take a class?

Kali, I don't scrap book because I'm so unorganized that I just can't wrap my head around where to start. But I will say......make sure before you buy anything, look online for printable things. If you have a printer, you can print out a lot of really decent things to add to your scrap book. The little individual things they sell in the store can really add up and most of it can be made with a few little craft supplies like cut out flowers, frames, pics with little ribbons, rhinestones, rivets, sparkle glue added to your printed out pics....stuff like that.

Put up some pics if you ever get some done!!

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

Thanx you two; I would have never thought to get stuff online! I'll do that and look around Michael's for stuff to get later; maybe after Christmas!

The new Halloween picture made me think I need to start a scrapbook and put all her special events in it. :)

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

I do scrapbooking and I love it. Haven't worked on it lately but will with winter coming on.
You can get some great ideas from the computer but be sure to make it yours. After you do a few pages you get ideas that just kind of "pop" in your head.

Michael's is a great place for supplies. I watch for sales of stickers and fancy little things to decorate pages with. You can also buy a set of scissors with all different kind of edges on them and they work great for making fancy borders for the edges of pages or around pictures.

My one problem is that I see things very symetrically and I have to be careful that I don't get my pages too perfect. It is o.k. to have pictures off-set and I do journal next to the pictures. Oh my goodness I could go on and on here. If you are going to hournal in them get the gel pens.

I did a scrapbook for my son when he retired from the Air Force. In Michaels' they had the books with the covers of all of the branches of the Armed Services and you could get all kinds of stickers and things for decorating. I put a little more money into that one than some of the others I have done, but I have to admit that I was so proud of it and he shows to it everyone. In fact, it sits right on their coffee table.

Cutting flowers and animals and things off of greeting cards gives you great things to do pages with.

My advice tho would be to do one for each Grandchild. I almost was going to do them by families but when I am gone the books will go to the kids themselves and how do you go about seperating them at that point in time.

Good luck and anything I can give you advice about, let me know. Also heed the advice about acid free glues and tape and lignen or acid-free paper and pages. that is very important. I will see if I can take a picture of some of the pages that I have done and put them up. Good luck and have a fun time doing it.

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

Thanks Sitter; I will remember to consult you when I need ideas/advice. With our slowest season (winter) coming up, that would be a great thing to do in my downtime at work.

RE: Michael's. Sometimes I go in there just to look at all their supplies; it's fun.

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

It is a good idea to start your Grandaughter's while she is little. Makes it much easier to keep pictures in a better chronological order. When you go back several years it is hard to remember exactly what age they were or like what Christmas or birthday it was.

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

I don't do it, but my friend does....and Sitter's idea about using greeting cards is one she uses. She saves her Christmas cards every year to cut up and use in her Christmas scrapbook albums....so remember to do that this year!!

Re: Anybody do scrapbooking?

Thanks Scoops; glad I got that idea before the cards start rolling in. I have a tendency to hang onto them anyway, so that shouldn't be too hard.
