I read she's going to be starting her own company in Los Angeles.
It'll be weird that she won't be living here in Chicago anymore. |

Re: Oprah finally calling it quits......
Very sad news!! I look forward to watching her show when I get home from work, it is the only daytime tv show that I will tape. I have her 20th season edition DVD set- excellent!! I just cannot imagine her show not being on, well at least she will be on until 2011- today was already a crappy day and now to come home to hear this....

Linda Lou, what don't you like about her? She really does do a lot of things for people and not all of it is announced. I know of a lady in my own town she has done stuff for and refused to have it announced on the show.
Mon, I like that her show is repeated at 1 a.m. It's something to watch during night shift. |

Oprah -- Just What the Doctor Ordered
Posted Nov 19th 2009 7:25PM by TMZ Staff Oprah Winfrey insiders tell TMZ Oprah initially planned to announce she was quitting her show earlier than today ... but the decision was delayed for strategic reasons. We're told Oprah will be making her big announcement tomorrow because it's the last taping day of the show for the rest of the year. As for the strategic reasons .... one insider says Oprah wants "The Dr. Oz Show" to slip into her time period on ABC when her show goes off the air. We've learned "The Dr. Oz Show" becomes a free agent literally within days of the final curtain for "Oprah." Will ABC buy Oz? |

Re: Oprah finally calling it quits......
Oprah's ratings have been dropping for the last 2 years, so have Kelly and Regis show. I can't remember where I heard that. Anyway, I've been over Oprah for a long time. She's tried many times to reinvent her show ( remember, her show based on spirituality? ) and it didn't fly. Its like breathing life in a dead horse.

Re: Oprah finally calling it quits......
I haven't watched Oprah in years and years. I liked her when she first started and she was a little unsure of herself. She empathized with everyone and appeared to really care what was happening in their life.
As the years went by, people not only loved Oprah, they began to worship her. It's insane to think that Oprah would have such an impact on the beef industry with one sentence, but she did. Many many people ARE sheep and they want a leader. For many, Oprah was "know all, see all" and her opinion was all that mattered. Oprah was God and she could do no wrong. THAT was what turned me off. Not Oprah but her undying fans. It was a huge indication that many people are missing something in their life and want someone to provide answers. Oprah seemed to do that. With people like Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz.......she tried to answer their questions and make them feel better about themselves. She made them feel there was hope to change and repair the failures they felt were so all consuming in their life. It was nice at first but grew old quickly for me. There's really not much for her to do anymore. It's time to close up shop, lock the doors and walk away :) Last edited by Pal; 11-20-2009 at 06:45 AM. |

Re: Oprah finally calling it quits......
Count me in as another one who is a big Oprah fan and sad to see her calling it quits. I just can't imagine daytime television without her.
I'm another one who respects and admires her for the work she has done on her television show. I will admit in recent years I hardly ever watch her as much and found her to be egoistical. However I will always admire her for the topics and experiences in life that she talked so openly about in the past and the advice she gave with it. |

Re: Oprah finally calling it quits......
My opinion of Ophra's premature retirement anonuncement is this; She won't stop show for 18 months...repeat ..18 MONTHS..so she feels it imperative to inform the media NOW!
Why? Her ratings have dropped, so the way to raise ratings is to be the Drama Queen she is, shed her false tears, as if she were terminally ill, emotionally devasted, inform all her minions that they won't have her around anymore.. just 18 months before her constant visage will be denied us! Oh, the tragedy...BUT...shows for the next 18 months will HAVE to be watched faithfully as they will be stupendous! lol Her ego is massive. She must have her photo on cover of EVERY magazine..just compelling beauty must not be denied to her fans! No one else could ever compare to her all powerful presence! Now my opinion on why she had Palin on just to pimp her book, is revenge on President Obama, because he did not live up to her expectations, that for her support, she thought she would be the 'alternate First Lady' and have the Presiden't ear! he had no such plans. I remember once all 3 were on stage together...she placed herself out front, gave her loud speal, then turned and hugged Obama...Michelle politely applauded, then the President walked over to Michelle, and put his arm around her..NOT Ophra... She looked stunned! Time went on, she did not get her 'just rewards' so she booked Palin, a rival who has constantly denigrated the President, to hawk her book..thus achieving 2 objectives..garnered ratings, and 'showed Obamas..that she was not to be denied. She needs and wants power...more power...dangerous power..she already had the money..now she will use it to grandstand to a higher level. She is disingenuous at least. and a threat at worst. Her ego is pathological she must remember that she is just a gabby women, who got lucky. |

I think you were a little rough on Oper :) I think she had Palin on because she knew people would watch. I just don't picture her as being THAT vindictive. Yes, she probably has a pretty huge ego but who wouldn't after the absolute fanaticism that has been displayed by her loyal and loving fans? But I've never seen her display a bloodthirsty, vengeful side..... I don't think she was simply a "woman who got lucky" in any way, shape or form. She had something about her that people loved and trusted. She said things that helped people in their life and I truly believe she helped many people conquer their demons and find the courage to try harder to achieve their goals and dreams............even if they were nothing more than trying to find the happiness they felt their life was lacking. That was not luck. That was a natural ability to "rally the troops" help them to regroup and empower them. ~I~ didn't need it but many did and her words were an epiphany for many a lost soul. I don't care for the adoration her fans have displayed and the almost worshiping of Oprah, but I have to give credit where credit is due..........she has/had SOMETHING and her success was not luck :) |

I'm sorry to disagree but she was on the verge of tears and had to take a deep breath before she could go on without crying. I've found myself to be in that situation many times. I guess you just aren't an emotional person and for that I pity you. There was no "ulterior" motive.

Her ego is pathological she must remember that she is just a gabby women, who got lucky. *********************************************************** I think, your post makes alot of sense. I have several male friends that have said; "The One" isn't living up to many voters expectations, including Oprah's. She's probally looking to stop production and move to another country and take her billions. After all, Big Ears ( Obama ) is going after the wealthy. Look at the rich leaving California. They and Oprah are probally headed to Africa at this point. The poor sure isn't going to support this country. You wrote about the Palin interview with the Alternative First Lady. First thought is ratings. Second thought is getting even with "The One". Obama doesn't need Oprah in or around him. He's president and has made it. Oprah needs the attention and glory and HAS SHOWN a vindictive nature once before. She sure showed it with the S.A. at Hermes and tried to get the poor woman in trouble ( fired? ). People have short term memories these days. Her motive for having Sarah Palin could had been based on vindiction. It's certainly not beneath her. I agree with your statement about Oprah and luck. All success is based on luck. Oprah has said that many times before. Its being in the right place at the right time OR having the right connnections. She had success in movies first and that continued thru a talk show. Its the same with those that used Oprah as a spring board to success. Does, Dr.Phil ring a bell? Without Oprah, he would still be in private practice in Texas ( a nobody ). The same goes for those whose careers catapulted thru Oprah's show. I think, your insight shows a clear vision of a dangerous person. There is the possibilty, she may lay low until Big Ears Obama is either impeached or the next election and a NEW president.
