What they did to Susan Lucci (AGAIN!)

e all saw what they did to Susan Lucci last night! It would have been all right if she lost the Emmy and that was that, although she should have won, but when they called Susan Flannery's name, they play the All My Children theme song AND some cameraman tells Susan LUCCI she won! Didn't those people have a list of the winners that they can play the right theme song, and differentiate Susan Lucci from Susan Flannery? Well, I E-mailed the academy and complained, and was joined by a lot of Internet AMC fans. They might really do something though, if they heard from you, too! The address is webmaster*emmys.org. We AMC fans are rallying around Susan for all the hours of enjoyment she's given us!

I feel bad for her happiness and then moments of discomfort and embarrasement, but really, worse things have happened. If this is the worst Susan Lucci ever goes through, she is a very lucky woman. Mistakes like this one has happened before, it can happen! Suing is ridiculous, be a good sport about it, and remember, there is always next year!

Cannot believe what they keep doing to this lovely woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Jealousy seems to be all around her. What gives? I thought I was dreaming when I saw this. The person who won has no love for Susan with her comment about Finola Hughes being her favorite to win. How embarrassing for everyone involved. Susan Lucci is the real winner all around here!

Leila you caught that comment to from Susan Flannery ? No way did Susan Flannery deserve to win. I guess it's political like anything else pretty sad huh for all the accomplishments and then have that on live tv. No its not the worst thing that can happen but Susan Lucci didnt deserve to not only be hurt but embarrassed geez the whole world was watching and they were playing AMC music. Nice little kick from her peeers to and Susan Flannery had won . It was like she blamed Susan Lucci for her 10 seconds of fame by that comment.

I'm not a soap watcher...but...did y'all ever think that the whole Susan Lucci thing might just be a big publicity stunt? She's much more well known because she NEVER wins as opposed to being just some anonymous soap star. Just a thought........

I thought she looked mannish. I think she played Robert Wagner's girlfriend who jumped out the window in "Towering Inferno" way back when and also remember her as the femme fatale in DOOL. Now she looks like an egg on legs.

I dont think Susan Flannery knew what was happening with Susan Lucci. The two presenters were from her show - Bold and Beautiful - they were shouting and screaming and looking at her to come up on stage. She came right up. Susan Lucci was backstage. I dont think Susan Flannery should have singled out one person (Finola Hughes) as being more deserving. Just say everyone is and be done with it. I hadnt seen Finola Hughes since her General Hospital days where she was wonderful and beautiful; she looked anexoric. I remember Susan Flannery from her Dallas days - she played JR's girlfriend for a season or two -she was slim and elegant and very good. Havent seen her since and was surprised at her appearance.

As far as Susan Lucci goes, it was embarrasing for her, but nobody is going to sue Dick Clark over this. He is way too powerful in the business. Its best for Susan to laugh it off and get more good publicity out of it.

I think you all have to remember, that if Susan Lucci was considered the best actress, she would have won. She didn't, and hasn't before either, maybe she isn't the best all that? I think a lot of you, just likes her, and thinks she is because of it. Basically, I think all soap actors stink, and the shows are ridiculous. I mean, the acting in teen comedies is better! And they are never outside in those soap shows, and only show fake plants and trees, to make it look like it. The stories are soo thin, it takes forever for anything to happen and I could go on forever. Soaps are for lonely women, in their mobile homes. I had to say this, I feel like soaps are holy in this country, and somebody should be able to disagree.

WEll I've been watching soaps with my mom since i was 5 years old. Look at the following at work i'd make sure i had 1pm lunch not to miss AMC with alot of others who watched it there . If i went out for lunch to do errands or whatever i ALWAYS taped them and watched them when i got home doing the house whatever. You have your right not to like soaps but don't down others that do and Classify us .

I believe the controversy here is not whether SF deserved the award, but that a mistake was made in awarding it that put SL on the spot. Also, if the acting's so bad (I don't watch enough to know), then I guess NO ONE would get the award, right?! And, BTW, SL DID win the award a couple of years ago.

When there is an award for best soap actress, someone has to win it. But that doesn't mean any of them are good. I would say least worst, would be a better title for the award.

I watched AMC for many years but now watch DOOL instead. The acting on DOOL is horrible and the storylines are pretty far out but I take it for what it is.....mindless entertainment. There are some good actors on the soaps but more often than not they're pretty bad.

Sunshine, you've obviously never seen Bold and Beautiful. Susan Flannery is a really great actress - she deserves the award. I don't watch any of the other soaps where the actresses were nominated so I can't comment on them. Ms. Flannery has been in movies and TV for years - she's not "just" a soap actress. But there's no shame in it anyway. A lot of "famous" highly regarded actors and actresses got their start on soaps. From what I've ready they all consider it good training and it's hard, long hours.

Also, for anyone interested Susan Flannery has been battling cancer - thus her appearance.

I thought it might be something like an illness, because of her hair. She is an excellent actress. When she was on Dallas, I wanted JR to marry her so she would stay on the show.

I've seen a couple of episodes of the show, Kitty. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to be able to act in a soap show. There are better actors in middle school theatres around the country. I don't know how you viewers stand the shows, I make sure not to even flip through them, they are so depressing. And why, oh why, aren't they ever outside??

Young and Restless will occasionally shoot "outside." But it's more expensive so the soaps don't do it often. I only watch two soaps but trust me the acting is better than any middle school productions I've seen. I don't believe in making generalizations. There's good and bad acting, producing, directing, writing in soaps just as there is in every other area of the entertainment industry.

Kitty, I agree with you. Dont forget also that soaps shoot 5 hours a week. It would be very hard to shoot outside with this time frame. I watch Y&R occasionally, and think some of the actors are top notch. The sets and costumes are top notch also.

Sunshine,

You are mistaken. Susan Lucci HAS won an Emmy. And just the fact she has been nominated so many times is testimony to her acting ability. No, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to act in a soap opera. Most rocket scientists wouldn't be interested. But it does take a dedicated actor. These actors work long hours every day with few breaks. And some of the best acting on television is on the soaps. Since you are so knowledgeable about soaps and actors and all that, I'd be interested in seeing what you can do.
