Updates on the previous "Young Ones"

Just heard that Debbie M. has been selected as a permanent host on the nationally syndicated "Good Day Live". Big break for her. For anyone who saw the shows when she tried out, she was a natural. She has grown up a lot since she was booted of The View.

Not so good news for Lisa L. Her "Ultimate Explorer" has not been renewed by MSNBC and has been sold to the National Geographic Channel for a new season starting the end of this year. It is off the air until then. Although the "official word" is that they want Lisa back as part of the new show, they are reverting back to the old format, dropping "Ultimate" from the name, going back to 2 hours, and not dealing with much except nature and wildlife. This leaves Lisa (who I thought did several terrific stories) out in the cold for now.

Boy, the up's and down's of this business.

Even though they would never do it, I think they should dump the current "young one". I did not see Debbie on the show, but I thought that Lisa was much better.

IMHO...

I hope Lisa Ling does continue on with her new show. I never saw it, but from what I've heard, it was more of what she wanted to do. I think she was probably over all the celebrity and gossip crap!

I didn't watch the View until after Debbie left either ... so I don't really have a good idea of "who she is".

I like Elisabeth ... so I dare to disagree with you fretz on that point. While I did enjoy Lisa Ling alot, I like how Elisabeth isn't afraid to get her opinion out there. Too often, Lisa just sat there agreeing with everything everyone else said. I would always rather have differing opinions ... it is what forces me to go out and get the info I need to make up MY mind!

Well I have watched The View from the time it premiered in 1997. Here is my take on the "young one".

Debbie Matenopoulos - Debbie auditioned for "The View" job before she had even graduated from college at NYU. So she was literally "just starting out" as the opening credits at the time said. I really think that she was not given a fair chance. Having to sit at a table with the 4 other women was obviously great pressure and perhaps frustrating to her.

Even Meredith said on a late night talk show back in 1998 that Debbie said to the women one day something to the effect of: "You guys are dismissive of me...etc etc...."

I also found that criticism towards her was unfair. Whenever she did something wild, people would be up in arms. However if Meredith did some wild and wacky such as when she gave Wesley Snipes that quick lap dance, people found that funny. There are so many other instances when Meredith made a fool of herself too and had Debbie done it, it would have been an outrage.

For example, back when they were auditioning new women after Debbie was fired, they had a prom show on The View. In her attempt to get bigger cleavage, Meredith adjusted herself and she kind of "popped out" for a quick second. She was totally embarassed.

I have to say however that I thought that the manner in which producers chose to move on without Debbie was done in poor taste. According to question and answer session with Debbie, she was not allowed to say goodbye on the show. Apparently the producers wanted Barbara to deal with the situation publicly on the show. I liked Debbie and in comparison with some of the things that the women have done or said on the show, did not think that she was too over the top.

Lisa Ling - She appeared to be a nice lady but I just found her a little too bland. She was however a well-informed young woman having travelled to Afghanistan and other places, reporting for Channel One. She too may have felt like she was always cut off and was not able to discuss more meaningful issues.

Elisabeth Hasselback- I have to say that although I have a difficult time tolerating many of her opinions, she does have the courage to voice her opinions and be heard. She does also have a different political perspective which has helped to balance out the panel.

I wish Debbie good luck at Good Day Live...she has obviously grown as a person and will appreciate this new chance for her. I also hope that Lisa Ling will remain with her show in some capacity. Elisabeth helps to make "The View" interesting with her differing opinions and so I think she will be there for awhile.

Well that's all that I can think of for now...just my opinion.

From a "Viewer" since 1997, ~Nat

Quick point...

I saw Debbie M. on the Howard Stern show from a 2000 (or there abouts) show they always replay on E!, and she clearly stated that she found out about her firing over XMas vacation when The View FAXED her agent saying she was fired. According to her, there was no personal contact directly with her, and Barbara flat out lied when she announced on the show that Debbie left to pursue "other interests".

What a crock!

The guy she married is supposed to be very rich...

Also, she said on Good Day Live that her REAL first name is Thesbian. (Greek). She said that Barbara told her when she was hired that she would not have gotten the job if her parents had not quickly changed it to Debbie. Birth Certificate says "Thesbian". That would be rough considering what it rhymes with...
